The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of blackberries, coriander, some tartness. Tastes sweet and blackberries dominate. Enjoyable.

Courtesy of Sea Bass. Pours gold with a bit of haze and quickly fading white head. The aroma comes across as being very nice with wheat notes that pop ups among the blackberry fruitiness. The taste begins crisp with a lightly acidic note then moving into fruitiness from the blackberries and getting sweet and sweeter. It doesn’t get all the way to being too sweet for me though. It gets better the more I drink it.

Sample A, courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours light golden with white head. Aroma, spices and a fake berry scent, almost like a cheap tea. Taste, fruity, extract all the way, grainy, metalic. Taste leaves something fake, probably because of extracts, almost like a chewing gum. I think they went a little too much in the extract, it leaves something that is too fake lacking a concistence and body.

Sampled this at the Music City Brewers Fest. Aroma of berries and wheat. Flavor reflected the nose. Slightly over-carbonated.

Had this at the Winking Lizard in Columbus. This was the national voting as to which beer Sam Adams will brew next. This brew didn’t do it for me.For the masses I can see it being good but not to us craft enthusiasts.Poured a clear golden color with a small white lacing edge. Lots of sweet berries on the nose’Flavor was overcarbonated but had the berry tone to it.As weird as it sounds it had a small hint of windex taste toit.Sweet, fruity and malty.

Sampled on a recent trip to the brewery. Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is decidedly ripe fruit, raspberries and blackberries. Flavor is much of the same with some bready and grassy notes. This was a very god wheat ale: hope to see it in stores someday.

POured a pretty weak golden color with a white head. Aroma was straight blackberry syrup. Flavor was much the same a little spice and wheatiness mixed in but just way to sweet and one dimensional

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2009 Pours a pale yellow orange and somewhat cloudy with a small white froth. Aroma is mildly tart with a bit of bite. This gave me high hopes. Some fruity notes behind the wheat, however it was a little too candy or pop-tart filling fruity. Flavor started out sweet and malty, and I still had my hopes up. Some mild fruit berry flavors mid swallow. The spiciness that they advertised was very subtle. In the finish that tartness starts to build and I was ready to be excited, and then.....nothing. I know it is a witbier and they aren’t tart but c’mon, blackberry’s have to be more tart! Anyway, medium body and low-medium carbonation. I was just disappointed. I ended up voting for the coffee stout, which was okay, and still managed to have more complexity than this one. I really wanted to like it more, and it wasn’t bad, just fell short. I like the nifty bottle opener they gave me though :)

Sample A bottle. Pours a nice golden orange. Perfumy spritzy aroma of blackberry & some additional fruitiness. Taste has nice berry flavor & some wit crispiness. Decent but a little toosweet & perfumy. Bring back the boysenberry
