Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

First ale I ever drank, roughly fifteen years ago. Nice amber color decent head and lacings left from a few of the bottles out of the six pack. Toasty/bready-caramel and butterscotch candy aroma with faint spicy/herbal hops and maybe cinnamon. English style herbal hops make for a New England interpretation of a Englsih Pale Ale. Taste not as complex as the aroma. Midway thru tasting the whole show abruptly stops and turns into a dry, bitter, metallic finish that lingers. I can’t prove it but I remember it being better.

12 oz. bottle. Aroma is predominantly malt with a hint of bitter hop and spice. Pours a brownish copper-red with about .5-1 fingers worth of white wispy crown, moderate retention with spotty lacing. Flavour is reminiscent of Boston Lager with strong malt and similar hopping, but with added spice, maybe nutmeg, cinnamon, or a hearty bark spice. Compared to Boston Lager, a much heavier mouthfeel, similar carbonation, but a smoother finish. In my opinion, better than the Boston Lager - surprised it isn’t more availably widespread. Overall a great beer for people that usually don’t prefer the finish of Boston Lager. One of my favourites from Boston Beer Co.

One of Sam’s better efforts and definitely a step up from the lager. Easy to drink but still has very pronounced flavor to it.

12oz bottle - Poured light copper color with medium head. Very nice caramel hop aroma with this brew. Tasted similar to the lager only with slightly heavier mouthfeel. Another nice brew from Sam Adams, very drinkable and not to pricey.

This Ale is more like an ESB than a traditinallly ale due to the more pronauced hobs. A really good refreshing beer.
