COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

I wouldn’t turn it down if you offered me one, but I wouldn’t buy it either. Light aroma of copper with some nuttiness, typical lighter bodied mouthfeel of Sam, balanced malt and hop, short malty finish. Overall impression: "beer-y". Meh.

Like many Samuel Adams beers this one has a nice balance between the hops and malts. Nothing overpowering and very easy to drink. Great session beer.

På flaska @ O*learys. Mörk gul färg. Doftar en aning av bröd. Smakar något sött och en antydan av beska.

Aroma: The smell is mostly from the malt, sweet porridge and biscuits. A whiff of orange.
Appearance: A clear amber copper toned beer, an off-white head that leaves good lacing.
Taste: The taste is also mostly sweet, brown syrup on white bread, and orange marmalade. The finish is somewhat bitter like orange peel.
Palate: Medium high carbonation, a foamy feeling with a dry finish.
Overall: As many beers from the Boston Beer company a bit too sweet - but not bad.
Note: Bottle. Reviewed 2010-07-01.

12 oz. bottle from Cash Wise in Watford City. Appearance: finger slightly off-white head, golden copper color, clear, good lacing. Aroma: caramel, light citrus hops, notes of wheat. Palate: medium-light body, average carbonation, moderate-light bitter finish, slightly sticky and also oily texture. Taste: sweet caramel, with light notes of wheat, into citrusy hops finish. Overall, drinkable, decent hoppiness, pretty nice beer really. Surprising.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours light amber, decent head, some retention, nice lacing. Aroma of caramel and biscuit. Taste is malty sweet with some earthy bitterness. Light bodied, medium carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes malty sweet with notes of bitter herbs, toffee, raisin and roasted malt. Average ale for my tastes.

Extremely low on aromas and flavor but smooth and easily downed. A little bit of sweet fruitiness and a dry gently bitter finish.

"just a touch cleaner and more flavorful than the lager in my opinion...just barely. i enjoy them both a little on occasion, but usually i’ll prefer something with a little more oomph."

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 330ml bottle served in a pint glass. A: Pours a beautiful amber clear color forming a light yellow bubbed and aired head. Low retention and only few spotty lacings left in the glass. A thin layer remains for long on the top S: Very malty, sweet and biscuity. Strong notes of caramel. Fruity. Great flowery hops in the end T: Slightly sweet upfront. Notes of roasted malts, toffee and raisins. Very malty and biscuity in the mouth. In overall, a dry, crispy and refreshing taste. Light hops bitterness in the end. Hops are bit citrus and quite flowery M: Light body. A bit molasses. Medium carbonation. Malty and biscuity aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Samuel Adams expected quality. Recommended [ BA Review @ 4/26/2014 ]
