COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Aroma ligero levemente resinoso, malta, panadería. En boca amarga, galleta, cuerpo ligero, burbuja algo picante. Una lager competente y agradable.

Bottle. Rich orange-yellow with off white spongy head, doughy aroma, high carbonation, smooth medium body, light hoppy taste, medium finish. Nice refreshing beer.

Pours a beautiful golden amber with a frothy white head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is very faint. If you really put effort into it you can pick up some sweet notes as well as a hint of spices. There is nothing off putting about the aroma, it’s just practically non existent. Taste is malty sweet, a little bread and grain, and a soft touch of hoppy bitterness to keep it from being unbalanced. Very drinkable beer. Mouth feel is nice and full, and it’s perfectly carbonated. Are there better beers out there? Absolutely. Are any of them as widely available as this? No chance. This has to be the best "mass produced" beer in America. Even concerts and sporting events usually have it on hand. Like many others, this beer got me interested in beers that were not in the BMC family, and for that, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2014 Pours an orange amber with a 2 finger head of what looks light tight creamy foam but fell pretty quickly and did not leave much lace. pristine clarity and a flourish of bubbles that settled to light lager bubbles wafting to the top throughout the drink.

Nose had a light soap scent at first that dissipated. Sweet flaky grain. Plenty of bread and grainy sweetness. There is a light herbal and as the beer warms a light floral that adds a nice lightness to all the rich grain. No fruit completely clean.

The mouthfeel is not crisp and is a bit flat. For as many bubbles as I saw and as many waft upward this is sluggish on the palate. The grain is richly sweet and is slow to cross the palate. The sweetness verges on syrupy in the drink. The hops are leafy and broad and add a nice herbal texture to the drink. It is gently creamy and moderately full. It could have finished dry but didn’t as it was just too sweet and left the palate tired rather than engaged. It had a very slight hop bitter in the finish. Should not have caramel in the lager. My rating is still a bit high.

Little to no aroma. Pours a clear straw color with a very small white head and a small amount of lacing. The taste is slightly sweet and has maybe a slight bitterness that comes out. Good carbonation and overall a decent beer.

Vois olla jopa huonompi. Katkera maku. Ei Samuli nyt lähde. Väljähtynyt. Ei ole mun juttu.

330 ml botle at Good Old Times, Greece Athens. Beautiful dark orange, copper body, clear, with a nice white lasting head. The aroma is all about the malts!!!! Caramel and toasty bread with the appropriate floral notes. Same taste of caramel and maybe some burnt sugar. Dry and malty sweet aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. An excellent Vienna Lager. (Judging only by the style)

Yet again, this is a beer that brings out my bias. And I’m okay with that. Yes, Boston Lager is one of the beers that got me interested in craft brewing. Yes, it’s been outdone by other amber lagers and is probably more popular than it deserves to be. But not by much. Boston Lager has a wonderfully sweet malt profile with lots of biscuit and caramel tones. The hops are bold and fresh. This is a lager that I just don’t ever get tired of. No matter when or where I have it, it always satisfies. Like it or not, this beer has a reputation for a reason.
