Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a medium off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with fruit and hops. Sweet malty flavour with a hint of fruit and a slightly bitter hoppy finish. Medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle to Shaker glass. Pours deep amber/copper. Two finger head, decent lacing. Aroma is floral, herbs and caramel. Taste is nicely balanced bittersweet. Light body, rather high carbonation. Nice mouth feel despite it’s lightness. Finishes with hints of roasted malts, nuts, earthy bitterness. A flavorful lager.

Pretty high scores for this one, a little higher than I would have thought. It’s good but nothing "goddamn!" about it. It has got a great tawny colour with a large crisp head and it does have a thicker texture to it that is quite nice. The taste is better than your classic Macro lager for sure, quite nice malt business, nutty, leather, caramel and some hay driving it home with subtle piney hops along for the ride. IT’s wayyyyyyyyy overpriced here on PEI ($16 for a 6 pack) so I avoid it with a fervor.

On tap in a frosted dimpled mug. Color is a golden copper, somewhat amber. Very light aroma. Medium bodied carbonation. Aroma is Mild hops, earthy and malty notes. Flavor is light hops, more malty sweetness, but again, not too intense. Seems like a nutty, earthy finish. It’s served in a frosted mug, I feel like it’s too cold and affecting the flavor. Definitely is lessening the aroma. Not terrible, and easily found. So it has that going for it. Which is nice.

Bottle. Aroma is dull, empty, metallic, eggy. Reasonably sized head, short duration. Taste has got more of the same as aroma. Moreover stale hops, light maltiness. Miserable beer.

På flaska från systembolaget. Mörk bärnstensfärgad . Luktar bröd. smak av karamell, kanske lite honung. En god öl helt enkelt.

Keg at the The Duke of Wellington, Chelsea. It pours clear deep amber-brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is malt-driven...toasty, earth, citrus peel and brown bread. The taste is crisp, bitter, earthy, brown, bread, muffin, orange peel, sherbet and caramel with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. I have had this a few times a good while back, but really enjoyed it this time. Well rounded, nice orange peel action and high drinkability. Good stuff
