Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

One of my favorite beers. You can get it anywhere. I love the citrus/spicy flavor with dry finish and the price makes this beer a common inhabitant of my sub-zero.

Pretty good beer. The taste is sort of similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. But Sierra is just better. The beer is priced really well though. The aftertaste is a little too strong.

Another rater said "usually the best beer available at places that carry only common beers", how true. I can always count on a Sam Adams when I can’t get a micro. In fact I like it so much, I just bought a case of the Winter Sampler.

when did they change this recipe? it used to be the strongest beer in the SA lineup at 6.5% now its at 4.5%??? what strikes me is the flavors they eek out of the hops in this lager...citrus, noble spiciness, very nice. the body lacks, but for a "common" beer that you can find anywhere, this lager excels. much better than average.

Bottle. This beer is really pretty good. Pours amber, with a nice full tall head. Nice and malty with hints of coriander, light citrus(orange), other spices, and little hop bight in the finish. Medium mouth feel, very drinkable.

Unfortunately this is the best on tap at many resteraunts I frequent. Certainly drinkable though. Amber with white head that disapates quickly. Average hop, average malt with slightly sour finish.

My first rating. Figured play it safe/with what I know. Pours amber with a thick head. Ok lacing. Strong hops taste with slight bitterness at the end. Always a standby in bars.

Bottle. Aroma is sweet, like a weizen, but with faint hints of hops. Pours a light golden color. Head is thick and creamy, with an off-white color that fades fast. Taste is bitter, with hints of coffe and hops. Bitter, but relatively watery. Overall, a moderate-to-exceptional beer. Repeat buy. Carbonaion is quite light, a little too light for a beer. Possibly a repeat buy.
