You know what? This is a pretty decent lager. Pours amber/gold with a foaming white head, fading to a soapy residue. Soft sweet malty nose, with hints of butterscotch. Smooth mouthfeel. Hops match with burnt sugary malts. For a "lighter" beer it has some really nice flavours. Solid and crisp finish.

Had this on draft at Topeka's Steak House in Hampton, VA on 3-13-04. Brownish red body with a small tan head. Nose is malt and some lighter fruit notes. The taste is very much malt with some caramel notes in it along with a hint of brown sugar. It's not a bad beer at all and I think Sam Adams gets an unnecessarily bad rap from some folks on here. Sure, it's not the be all, end all of beer but it's drinkable and unoffensive.

A very good dark lager. Very smooth and has a very malty flavor. Goes down very good with a steak meal! When first drinking it has a slight bread scent to it. Very good!

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2004 Amber, clear, thick but quick-fading head. This lager is floral and bread-scented, which is more apparent if served in mug or glass. The malt tends to dominate though. Also, this high-carb lager is still tasty at warmer temps--for all "babysitters." Finishes sort of sweet. Low ETOH (Alcohol). A malty sipping lager.

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at how full of flavour this is - a range of fruits cut through with a decent balance of bitterness and malty sweetness. There's enough going on to keep one interested to the end and then wanting some more to find out what other flavours can come through. A bit of tangerine marmalade and a hint of stawberries were among the flavours. The finish is long and complex and ends with a very dry bitterness that seems to go on for ever. [3.1]
Bottle. Head to Head with Brooklyn Lager. Amber with faint foam edge. Malty with sour fruit note. Some bitterness. Amber fog. Aroma of cardboard and old beer. Stale hops soon intrude heavily, spoiling this completely. Flavours muddy and not defined. [1.8]

On tap. Golden-amber color that is clear with good effervescence. Large, creamy, off-white head that is fairly lasting. Good lacing. Aroma is initially hoppy with a light herbal and slight evergreen scent. As it warms, aroma faintly smells like wheat bread. Initial flavor is a good mix of sweetness and bitterness. Longer than average finish that is slightly more bitter than sweet. Palate is medium body, semi-dry texture with lively carbonation and a light astringent finish.

Thanks to its near total market saturation, this beer has many a-time saved me from having to drink bud/lite/coors in a hotel bar. I remember my first in 1989 in a bar beside Emory University. Caramel maltiness with a citrus undertone.

Not really a typical lager. More like a belgian amber ale. Quity hoppy aroma with sweet caramel malts. Clear, amber-yellow coloured with an off-white rocky head. Looks very good. Hoppy, bitter taste with some malty sirup. Quite decent balance.
