Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Don’t normally like hops but this is balanced and drinkable. Very good middle rung beer.

Una buona ed onesta lager. Profumata, bilanciata, dal gusto pueno di miele di castagno con l’amaro che persiste ma non stanca. Una birra semplice e ben fatta da bere sempre.

Backlog, tried bottled and on tap a number of times. While not as good as the more hoppy and outspoken beers in this category, this is still a very good amber.

Poured from cask to a somewhat disappointing spectacle. I was under the impression that the gas had gone due to the minimal head, but I was mistaken. A darker lager than expected, and the aroma was average...nothing more nothing less. Without being over critical I did not enjoy this beer at all. It has a sweetness to it that developed further down the glass. Others that drank this felt the same. It really is one of those beers where you can only stomach a pint or two. Overall a below average boston lager that I believe should only be sold by the bottle, not cask.

Dark yellow colour with a light white fading head. Noses of barley, barnyard and sugared malt. On the palate it develops a light slick texture with a medium sweet body. The finish leaves some dryness and fades relatively quick.

Amber pour, minimal head. Nose is spicy hops and malt. Slightly more bitter then sweet. Middle is medium bodied and a loaf of yummy bread (not technical, but so what). Finish has some pleasant hop bitterness.

Nice colour and good 1 finger head. Aroma is nice but could be a touch more. Excellent balance, creamy caramel malts. In many ways, more Pale Ale-like than the Sam Pale Ale. Medium mouthfeel, very refreshing.
