COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

I can’t believe I’ve never rated this; this may have been the first craft beer I ever tasted back in the very early 1990s. On the other hand, I probably haven’t had a bottle since I joined ratebeer a decade ago. In the old days it was always on tap (and too expensive to buy, usually) but tonight I it was from the bottle. Amber pour, decent head. Malty, decent hop profile, some baking yeast on the nose. Pretty darn adequate and better than I expected.

Pours clear red minimum head. Lighter tasting ale with a nice blend of hops and grain.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Nice resin hop aromas with a hint of citrus in the nose as well as a bit of caramel. Very well-balanced. Creamy mouthfeel with a medium light body. Nice crisp and refreshing finish.

Nice clear golden looks with solid white foam head. A bit malty slight sweet smell. The taste is malty sweet, round and creamy, calm and a little boring. The carbonation is rather light. Surprisingly solid beer, but it will not trigger an epiphany or any form of larger amazement.

Yeah, yeah...it ain’t "craft" really, but who cares? Sampled (hundreds of times!) in a tulip- one designed by Sam Adams brewery. A terrific drink once one gets beyond craft beer snobbery. Frothy white head, nice glass-cling, medium amber color. Evergreen and citrus nose, surprising depth of flavor rounded out by nice somewhat bitter hop. Nice malt and hint of caramel too. Will not find a better beer with the same availability. Have used it in many food preps...BBQ sauce, steak rub/paste, chili, mojo pork, etc. For a borderline big brewery, a wonderful beer.

Torn on how to rate. Excellent for style. But there are more notable brews out there. Light on mouthfeel. Really filtered clear. Great carbonation. Some beer flavors in there. Just doesn’t wow me enough to give it n four range.

Cor ambar, espuma cremosa. Amargor médio, sabor de cereais. Aftertaste mantém o amargor. Corpo leve.
