COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

A wonderful aroma of rich hops with a sweetness to it. The full bodied beer gives a satisfaction that only the best lagers give. This is a great beer. Only downside is a slight after taste of bitter malty dryness.

From bottle. For some reason, I have never rated this one. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, malty with few hops. Medium thin mouthfeel. Acceptable and easily drinkable, but not special.

Bottle. Light amber pour with a thin white head, decent retention. Nose is nice, grains, a little hoppy. Flavour is bit malty with some hops to balance. Decent overall.

Nice pale amber color. Strong persistent head. Nothing fancy about the flavor. Quintessential balanced lager, nice sweetness with a malty finish.

Red cloudy beer, small and persistent foam head. Strong roasted malt flavors, but with a perfect balance of strong hops flavors and a rich persistent flavor aftertaste.

Bottle (brewed by Shepherd Neame). Pours pale amber with a frothy, slightly off-white head which fades to a ring. Aroma of fruit, sweet malts and hints of hops. Taste of orange, spices and bitterness with a hint of roasted malt.

bottle. Light amber with small head. As mass market lagers go, you could do a lot worse than this one. Mild malt body and light hops. Reasonable flavor for the style.

Definitely better than your run of the mill lager. Pours dark amber, clear with a good duration on the off white head. Nothing exciting on the nose, a little malt and hint of hoppiness. Tastes of caramel, malty smoothness and you can pick up a slightly bitter hoppy finish with moderate carbonation. Overall a good lager, especially when compared to other American commercial lagers.

My Bottom Line:
Silky malts and their mild honey-like sugars set the stage for a tight finish of herbal hop bitterness and biscuity cereal angles.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam dwindles into the shiny amber-hued golden.
-The super silky mouthfeel is quite pleasant.
-Drinkability is obviously very high.
-This is far from a compelling beer, but it remains expertly rendered and quenching.

Bottles.
