Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Very good lager. I would say that it’s slightly better than Yuengling Lager. Full flavor without much of a bitter aftertaste.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2009 Far from the average lager, this was a surprise. Amber color, a thin head, but lots of hops and malt aromas. On palate caramel and tiny toasted touches, not commonly found on lagers. Bitterness was on the exact point. One of the best beers I’ve had, combinating taste and easyness to drink.

A satisfying, medium-bodied dark lager. Malty and slightly bitter. Sure looks great in a pitcher on a sticky table.

Little to no aroma. Pours a clear straw color with a very small white head and a small amount of lacing. The taste is slightly sweet and has maybe a slight bitterness that comes out. Good carbonation and overall a decent beer.

I'm not a lager fan, they serve to quench my thirst only. But this is a lager I would request, it's nicely hopped, more than I expected from a lager, and the nutty flavor is also a pleasant surprise for me. It's a good brew.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2007 A very good lager. On draft, the hop aroma/flavor is great, but not always consistent. One of the best mass-market lagers.

Straight out of the bottle... wouldn’t of known this is a lager at all, unless the label... semi-sweet and malty. This is pretty good... first tried it playing nickels, asked the cocktail waitress at a local casino what imports they had and she mentioned Sam Adams... wasn’t aware Massachusetts had seceded... anyway, this is very tasty beer... a very, very good macro... Viva Boston!

Bottle 355 ml. Golden and clear appearance with a small compact head. Sweet and malty aroma. Taste of caramel and different malt flavours. Nice balanced bitterness. Not too complex. An excellent lager.

Bottle. Golden, clear, slightly off-white head. Nice lacing down the glass. Very strong hoppy aroma - floral, piney, with some malt. Tastes rich caramel malty up front with a strong hoppy bitter drying finish. I really like ths beer... very tasty.
