COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Excellent flavor although a little filling and a little grainy. Aside from those couple minor setbacks it’s a satisfying lager.

Excellent lager. It could use slightly more malt aroma, but otherwise is a nearly perfect example of an east coast lager. The hops choice is superb.

A pretty good beer, has a sort of roasted flavor, a little bitter for my liking though, but overall pretty good.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2010 Appearance: Deep amber color, clear. Lots of nice carbonation. Head looks very creamy, lacing looks great on the glass. Aroma: Sweet caramel malts, floral hops, hint of citrus. Taste & Mouthfeel: Caramel malts up front, along with floral hop. There’s some little orange citrus in the middle with dash of spiciness. Light-medium bodied. Carbontion is about medium. Finish & Aftertaste: Crisp hoppy finish with semi-sweet floral aftertaste. Overall Impressions: Very good! A true American craft beer!

Sam Adams products have always been my fav main stream beer. I can pick them up at any local store around here and they are a decent price. I poured this from a bottle, into a pint glass. Nice amber apperance. It has a very nice dark flavor. A hard bite followed by a smooth after taste. I think the taste is better once it starts to warm, but I’m wierd. I would recommend any SA products to any level of beer lover.

On tap. I do not have a problem with the success of SA. The lager is a good session beer. Nice, light amber color, not much visible carbonation, thin head. Well-balanced flavor but subdued. Available everywhere, incuding 6th barrels for home tap consumption.

My beer of choice in local bars that don’t carry other beers I like. I have gotten a few that have been skunky over the years but it is still drinkable. Great beer to drink. Nice label design also a plus to me.

For a macrobrew it is quite sweet with hints of bitter in the aftertaste. A complete beer.
