COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Not my first time tasting. Really good lager, and most people are willing to drink it. Pour is a nice deep amber, with a nice mild hoppiness in the nose. Good head and lacing on this beer. Taste is crisp. Initially is slightly hoppy/sweet , then finishes a little bitter, and well balanced with the malt. Very good.

Holds up well against newer craft beers. Floral nose, good balance of maltiness, hops and sweetness. Long semi-bitter finish. Not particularly nuanced or special, but well-made, tasty and consistent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the bottle. I think this has a nice hoppy bitter malty mxed flavor. I keep this one around for whoever might show up tonight.

The appearance is red copper clear with a small head. The taste is a balanced bitterness and maltyness with a slight citrius aftertaste. The is a good larger and not heavy.

Excellent flavor although a little filling and a little grainy. Aside from those couple minor setbacks it’s a satisfying lager.

Excellent lager. It could use slightly more malt aroma, but otherwise is a nearly perfect example of an east coast lager. The hops choice is superb.

A pretty good beer, has a sort of roasted flavor, a little bitter for my liking though, but overall pretty good.

Poured and immediately smelled very nice aroma. Nice amber color with a excellent creamy head with.medium bitterness, it had a medium body with slightly oily texture. Carbonation was average with a slightly bitter finish. Nice lacing on glass and kept a nice creamy head till the end. I enjoyed this Lager quite a bit. One of the better Lagers I’ve had. Samuel Adams scores another big hit. I will definitely buy again.

I refer back to this one every now and then as a benchmark to see how my tastes have changed. The malt and hops tastes in the commercial description are always right on, but the weak, watery, character that the ad guys won’t tell you about is always there too. Maybe I just can’t take lagers anymore, I dunno. If you’re used to slamming light beers all day, this will definitely be a move up. If you’re used to sampling even the moderately better brews out there, save your money.
