Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Golden Amber with a slight off-white head and good carbonation. Aroma: Malt, citrus, floral. Taste notes: Grassy, herbal/floral, sweet caramel start, medium body and a nice hoppy, bitter finish. I may have tasted hundreds of exotic brews since, but I will always have fond memories of Samuel Adams as my first exposure to something by way of a decent beer. It’s all about context. This is a good beer in its own right, but as a commercially available bottled beer that jostles for space with generic staples , this makes for a fantastic option.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2016 33 cl. bottle. Almost clear (slightly hazy) light copper coloured beer with a thin white head. Aroma is slightly roasty caramel, licorice, floral hops, and dough. Pleasant savory taste is somewhat sweet with following bitter notes. Medium-bodied with creamy texture. Average carbonation with bitter and smokey finish. One of the best lagers available.

Out of the can, poured a light copper, clear with a thick persistent white head. Aromas of grainy malt, hay, and spicy noble hop. On the palate more caramel malt sweetness comes through, but well balanced with a dry, refreshing finish. Not overly complex, but overall a nice, well-made lager.

Good one with aroma of American hops and bitter taste, with high drinkability, but without nothing extra.

Beer out of 12 pack fall sampler pack. Very little head when poured. Amber in color and pretty smooth. Little carbonation. One of the better lagers out there. Overall this is above average brew.

Bonne lager à la robe cuivrée. Belle longueur boisée. De la complexité et un bel équilibre. Bière assez forte pour une Lager.

Purchased in bottle from a supermakret in Hong Kong. The apprearnce is attractive, with clear amber and copper colour, and with smooth white head, look like color of ale than typical lagar. A delightful mixed tatse of malt, pine and caramel, slightly sweet but natural.
