COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin head, with some lacing, over a clear coppery gold body.....nose is of malts and mild non floral hops.....tastes promarily of mild to medium malt sweetness finishing with hop bitterness with a touch of citrus. Mouthfeel is light to mediun. A pleasant, but not particularly note worthy brew.

Pour is reddish gold with a pretty thick white head. Floral aroma of hops fills the nose. Pretty floral hop flavor with a light malt finish that you wish would linger just a little longer. Finish is clean but kind of abrupt.

not a bad beer, but not a great beer in my opinion. somewhat bitter aroma and dark appearance that reminds me of apple cider. mild hops with a decent bitterness, but somewhat watery consistency.

Much better than most American lagers I’ve had. A lot more color to it as well. I am very happy with this beer. Very nice hop and malt balance. A sweeter taste without all that rice and corn filler. Also a bit creamier than most lagers.

The pour reveals a dark golden color with a medium white head. The aroma is mostly malty, slighlly biscuity and mild caramel, there’s also mild hops. The flavor is decent, there’s a nice balance between the slightly biscuity malt and the noble hops, it feels crisp and dry, on a negative note, there’s a metallic feeling all along in the mouth and I dislike that. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Not bad at all, but the metallic flavor gets on my nerves after a while.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2014 "not full and rich compared to what i really like to drink, but an ok enough effort nonetheless. i prefer the ale to the lager ever so slightly. good malty backbone and decent balance, just a little boring."

Above average score for a lager, IMHO. Drank from a bottle from the LCBO. Very nice for an American macrobrew. Goes down smooth with a nice hoppy malty finish that’s not too strong. I wish I could buy this for much cheaper up here in Canada. Perhaps I’ll pick up a case next time I’m in the States.
