Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Good, but definitely not elite. Somewhat hoppy, which I like, though not much to look at. Bitter for a macro (yes, it is a macro, get over yourself), but pretty good overall. A basic lager done pretty well. Lightly sweer and malty. Little aftertaste. Not the uberbeer the commercials make it out to be, but a good choice in restaurants that don’t carry any regional micros.

An obviously overrated beer after the extensive commercial deScription and the tv advertisements. Boring, thin, carbonated mouthfeel. Decent malt taste but not as much hop flavor as the deScription suggests.

Much better than most American lagers I’ve had. A lot more color to it as well. I am very happy with this beer. Very nice hop and malt balance. A sweeter taste without all that rice and corn filler. Also a bit creamier than most lagers.

Always drinkable. If I really want beer and a place doesn’t have craft beer I’m not afraid to settle for this.

Smells somewhat floral, kind of sweet. Pours clear bronze with a thin white head. I am not a big fan of lagers, but this one is more flavorful than most American lagers, it has a little spiciness to it. Goes down a little flat and dry.

This is pretty good icey cold in a frosted mug. As it warms tho the carmel flavor seems off. Better than Bud or Miller anyday tho.

Solid brew. It’s a darker lager with some bite. Distinctive flavor for a macro. Leaves you with some bad after-taste though sometimes, and is a bit over-priced (like all of the Sams).

Never been a fan of plain old Sam Adams. I guess it’s the best major American macro. But is that supposed to impress me?
