COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Amazing example of a true American Beer. This is an excellent beer, which thank the lord, because it's a go to beer when the only other beers carried at bars/restaurants are bud and bid light. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I think this is my favourite USA beer. Sadly, this is the only type I’ve tasted from the Samuel Adams family. It has an intense smell, like wood, coffee and citrus. It has a full body, very complex with a great taste (like orange peel). I like its deep brown color, very foamy. I just hope to taste more beers from the S.A. familiy to make comparisons.

One of my three favorite beers. It looks wonderful as tastes almost as good as it looks (I admit to favoring slightly bitter beers). Not quite the equal of my all-time favorite, Leinenkugel’s Northwoods Lager, but it’s right up there with Crooked River’s ESB.

This is a great american beer that is readly available throughout the U.S in bottle or draft. I believe the draft is smoother. Great amber color with a rich flavor. This beer is a good one to keep on hand when having people over.

Hands down my favorite beer to drink on a regular basis. I just can seem to get past it when I’m pushing my cart through the walk-in cooler at the grocery store. I always drink this one from a pint glass to savor the aroma.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2006 Samuel Adams Boston Lager 24 oz bottle Recent bottling, appreciated 09/06 Medium pour in a pilsner glass Poured copper bronze with a 1/2 white mostly diminishing white frothy head. Smelt of dark bready malts and soft citrus hops. Taste was upfront medium piney bitter hops and very slightly citrusy as well, with the follow through a bit like sweet dark bread melding with the remaining bitter hoppiness for a pleasant lingering finish. Mouthfeel was medium and dry with lively carbonation. Overall, in my humble opinion, the best mass-marketed lager on the american market, an serves as a great entry point to the world of beer to the unitiated cheap american pilsner drinkers.

A great beer, but I initially overrated it. While they taste ’good’, they have too much of a ’medicine’ taste or microbrew taste to them that makes it a bit unnatural, good toffee flavored beer though, color is described well, it is quite original but is not a staple in a drinkers diet, just an occassional beer, too ’mediciny’ to drink very often.
