COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

To me, this beer occupies a level somewhere between decent cheap beers (e.g. MGD) and my current favorites (e.g. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Porter, and Celebration Ale). When it’s fresh, it’s very pleasing and somewhat delicious. Aftertaste has a little bit of a bite. When it’s not fresh (which has been most of the time for me) it’s lost its sweetness and delicateness, and tastes a little bit sour. It also appears cloudy when you hold a glass of it up to the light. Why wouldn’t it be fresh? you might ask, especially since they mark the expiration date on the bottle. My advice is to take that expiration date, and subtract two or three months to get the real expiration date.

Cool bottle, beautiful coloured beer. A good lager but yet again not good enough.

Stout beer, strong aftertaste, not unlike the lighter German beers. Great from draft.

Buona. Gusto deciso. Una lager ma ambrata. Amara al punto giusto. Schiuma morbida e persistente. Ottimo retrogusto. Consigliata.

Tapped at the Mill Creek pub in Orangeville/Canada. Clear golden copper color. Stable white head, creamy. Malty aroma, some floral aroma too. Taste is malty, a bit caramel sweetness, almost no hops. Overall ok but I not my cup of tea.

Love the aroma of the beer, very refreshing. Nice golden color when poured, just enough head when poured properly. Enjoyable hoppy flavor when first sipped, not a great after taste slightly bitter.

From a bottle. Deep amber, almost oily consistence, medium white head. Nice aroma, malts, hops, grass, hints of caramel. Taste bitter sweet, body quite substantial, in a way reflecting the oily appearance on the palate. Enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer has one of the most wonderful aromas in the world, and for being a lager that’s good. For some reason I compare this beer with Brooklyn Lager, and where the latter draws the longest straw when it comes to the taste. But again, the aroma is just stunning!

Bottle, 35.5cL. Home. A clear brown orange beer with a huge white head. Thin bubbles. Good persistence. Smoky aroma, fruity (light : red berries), herbs. Medium refreshing bitter, light sugary sweet. Medium to light body, medium texture, average to soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Overall, good beer ! This is the first beer I drank when I’ve been to NYC for the marathon last year.
