Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Light hoppy aroma, orange color with a solid white head. Pretty robust taste for a lager, somewhat dominated by the hops, with some caramel and toasted grain notes I could detect. A little high in carbination for my taste. One beer you know will be good everytime.

Great amber color, off white head. Smelled a bit of caramel. Great flavor with a solid finish. Great balance, great lager.

Pours clear amberish copper, with a medium off white head that lasts a while. Aroma is toast and caramel malts lager yeast, floral and citrus hops. Flavor offers a pretty decent malt complexity up front, barley cereal, followed by caramel, fresh made pasta, sourdough crust, and a little straw. Hops run the gamut floral then citrus and pine in the middle then bitter toward the end. Finish is bitter hops and some lingering bready malts. A very good lager that really could use a little more hops to be perfect but has a great balance and flavor profile-especially for an American Lager-to make it a really good beer that appeals to alot of people.

This is a great beer that is always a good choice. I love the aroma and taste that is produced from the ample amount of hops that are used. It would have to be my most favorite lager.

This is my standby at returants. I think that as far as market lagers go this should be the great American lager

Definitely a favorite of mine out of the typical beers you can get just about anywhere. Small head, nice floral aroma balanced with a touch of malt, light amber in appearance. Well balanced hop flavor, but a touch too watery, not as full bodied as it should be. I wouldn’t turn one down though, it’s a solid beer in my book.
