Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

Light brown color and thick head entice. There is a sweet malty aroma. The taste is less flavorful than expected but still has a malty tones with hints of hops at the back of the throat.

Pours completely transparent brown with a tan head. Nice malty aroma with a heavy caramel backing. Flavor is a little more of a complex malt variety with some nuts and a pretty decent hop balance. Has a watery cheap beer palate that detracts from the beer.

I’m a sucker for brown ales and Sam Adams does a credible one. Reddish tinge, small head, expected nuts and caramel nose, but like many SA beers, too watery of a finish.

Bright reddish-brown. No head. The aroma is nutty and caramelly. Decent body. Toasty, with a hint of chocolate sweetness. Thin in the finish.

I thought this was good for An American brown ale. It was a traditional brown ale flavor, but not too rich or filiing like a Newcastle; however, unlike Newcastley, I could put down more than a few of these in an evening.

If I’m in the mood for a traditional ale, this is the one I go to. This Brown Ale has one of the best malt character I’ve had. I tast hints of caramel and a little nuttiness, kinda like pecans maybe? Just the right amount of hops to give the beer more complexity. No harshness from the Brown One, just smooooth sailing. It appears to have a deep dark brown sugar color with a creamy tan head that’s faithful to hang with till the shows over and it’s time for another one.
