Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

Brown sugar nose. Dark caramel color. Was thin and off balance. Too heavily carbonated. Not a good brown, not really a good beer.

Pours a clear brown with a foamy tan head and a little lacing. Aroma is malty, with hints of nuts and caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet and nutty, but not overwhelmingly so. A good, solid brown ale.

A little nuttier than I would like, though there is a beautiful color. Slight hint of caramel on the nose and in the aftertaste. Not good for all day drinkability, but decent for sipping.

Sweet malty nose. SIgnificant head that lasts with lacing throughout. Dark brown. Soft entry with some carbonation. Very smooth transition to sweet yet bitter finish. There is a little cocoa in the aftertaste.

Solid Ale. Pours a clear crisp-looking brown/amber into the glass with a good sized head. Nice crisp taste to it with hints of toasted biscuit and nuts. Finishes clean with just a small bite. Compliments food excellently as well. Very good brown ale.

Pours a dark brown in the glass, with a small off white head that lasted briefly. Smells of malt and carbonation. Tastes malty, segueing into a caramel/toffee taste, with a sweet finish. Little bitterness and an odd carbonated flavor, almost like a metallic edge. Not bad.

My goal is to find the best rich, nutty, sweet, malty, caramel, Brown ale. This sure isnt it. It is a bit too bitter, and has a rough taste. Its disappointed with all of the great Sam Adams beers this one isnt fantastic.
