| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 16, 2008 Pours a clear mahogany with a loose, creamy, beige head that leaves behind wispy lace. The nose is a nutty, roasted malt front with bready Munich and lightly fruity notes in the mix, as well. Light to medium-bodied with soft yet assertive carbonation and a game-breaking astringent finish. The flavor more-or-less follows the nose, but the astringent finish is a big detractor, as is a dry metallic note that pokes out at the end. This is certainly among the bottom of the pack of Sam Adams brews that I’ve sampled, and I’ve had quite a few. FatguyRacer (130), Crownsville, Maryland, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 15, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pretty basic and boring. Not one thing about this brew is stands out. While its still better than any mass produced american lager, by BBC standard this less than average. I better start scouring stores for left over SA Heffenweiss, cause the rest of their offerings are leaving me high and dry for an everyday brew. marksahara (79), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Aroma is rich with roasted malt and some mild caramel/toffee sweetness. Pours a solid brown with off-white crown, 1 finger worth, fluffy, decent retention and spotty lacing. Flavour is deep with malt, caramel, a slight hint of nut and roast. No hop bitterness until the finish, but even then it’s only slightly discernible against the biscuit notes you get. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, at best, with spritely carbonation and a rather smooth finish. Overall a great affordable brown ale and extremely easy drinking - a great starter beer for anyone getting introduced to darker beers. solid. Kinz (2187), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Medium slightly reddish amber, clear, decent head. Aroma is a mix of nuts and a light hint of coffee. Flavor is very similar, with nuts, watery coffee notes, and a bit of roastiness. Faint twang of astringency on the tongue from the roasted malts as well. Hops add finishing bitterness but no discernable flavor notes. Not a bad brown ale, easy drinker. SLightly bitter aftertaste. Good affordable Brown Ale. Will definitely get again. thekmoonlegend (93), Lynn, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Reddish-amber, slightly brown color. Dense head that dissipates slowly. Mild malty aroma. Flavor is caramel, malty. I’d say medium-bodied with a little carbonation, less than I was expecting. Overall a decent beer. Skyview (4011), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Picked up single 12-oz bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear reddish amber brew with a thick and fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a white ring. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, some grassy hops, a touch of fruity apples with a touch of roasted nuts. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of lightly roasted caramel malt and some vegetable. Finish is smooth, creamy with a light caramel flavor.
