Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

Bottle. A nice solid, all-around brown. Dark red color, nice light tan head that stays there for the whole beer. Not the most complex tasting brown, but what’s there is very good and goes down smooth. Malty, roasted nuts, hints of chocolate. Really smooth finish.

THOUGHTS: Not very memorable. Not bad just not that good. Initial flavor is really nice and then it all turns bad. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brownish red with an average-sized, off-white head that mostly diminished but left a think sheet. The aroma was moderate toasted and caramel malt with salt. It smelled better as it warmed. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, while the finish was lightly sweet and light to moderately bitter with an average to long finish. There was moderate caramel sweettness at first but then gets a burnt toasty and bitter hop finish. I like hoppy finishes, just not this type of hop. Ite’s more of a lemony copperish finish. The medium body was watery to dry with very fizzy carbonation and a metallic and slightly chalky finish.

Bottle. Roasted malt, Noble hops, caramel and nuts on the nose. Pours a fairly attractive brown with a thin white head. Toasted malt, hops, a hint of caramel and nuts on the palate. Medium bodied. Not too bad for a macro brown.

(bottle) medium brown with fluffy light tan head. Faint malt aroma. Very slightly sweet malt flavor, fairly dry. Medium body.

How did I miss this one till now? Pretty rare around these parts I guess. Dark complexion. Typical slightly sweet yeast beer aroma. Nice head. A little too bitter for my lager lovin taste buds on the initial taste hit. Excellent carbonation, the best I’ve had lately. The initial bitternes morphs into a milder industrial effect as the session continues. Finish is less bitter than expected but still leaves a mild to medium processed lingering semi-metallic bite on the back of the palate. The appearance and carbonation keep this otherwise below average beer slightly above average.
