CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Oct 7, 2007 Bottle. Good brown color with thin white head. Light aroma. Nutty, roasted malt flavor. Pretty overall mild brown ale. puboflyons (590), New Hampshire, USA Oct 5, 2007 Bottle with an expiration date of Dec 07. Nice brown pour. No hints of red or chocolate like others...just plain old brown, with a creamy tan head. Malts are noted. So are nuts. Smooth in the mouth and mild overall. A very nice brown ale and one that I would have again. optimusAlex (7), USA does not count Oct 5, 2007 i enjoyed this beer, but Sam Adams has better stuff out there, like the Black lager DuffMan (2723), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Oct 5, 2007 Clear copper with a chunky beige head that laces its way down the glass. Initially bready aroma, more caramel as it warms, but really quite muted. Straightforward caramel palate, slightly metallic finish. Remarkably smooth mouthfeel though. Pretty unremarkable really. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2007 Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights and a nice soapy tan head. Aroma is a nice sweet malt. Brown ales are full of sweet simplicity and this one follows suit. Caramel, coffee, toffee and bread can be tasted. A nice brown. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2007 Brown with a tan head...just a hint of aroma-brown sugar....malty sweetness on the palate, nice texture, very soft, creamy even.....nice lacing, very drippy...nice nice....just nice lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Oct 2, 2007 pours a caramel brown with a nice two finger fluffy off white head. aroma is toasted caramel malt with a little citrus hos mixed in. has a light to medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with a little biscuit. has a little spiciness on the tongue, but is a bit thin. not bad. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2007 Nice brown color with quickly fading head. Nutty, sugary malts appear on the nose, well balanced by mocha, dusty hop aromas. The body is a little thin but a nutty, caramel malty taste leads to a finish which is characterized by a quiet, almost fruity spicy finish. There are earthy elements, muted spice and licorice notes too. Not bad.
