Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

Bottle. Decent head. Nice dark burgandy brown color & a pleasant sweet aroma. Some nutty and caramel taste although it was disappointingly bland. The aftertaste was unflattering and more tart than sweet. Would not buy if I was looking for a brown ale.

Nice aroma and a sweet, nutty, malt flavoring. Sam Adams are usually a little smoother than this one.

Beautiful brown in color. Nice tan foamy head. Worst characteristic of the ale is the after-taste. Did not meet my expectations. NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE is superior in all categories.

Deep copper. Rich head that crackles as it subsides. Sweet malt aroma with hop notes. Quaffable brown. Subtle hops. Lingering malt sweetness.

Clear brown , full tight head. Low aroma, hints at caramel and dry earthiness. Fairly staid flavours - reasonable strong malt tones, some biscuitiness, a touch drying and slightly tarty finish. Nothing to get excited about

Re-Rated from a bottle, in a shaker, on 8/19/07: This is much better than I remembered. A very pleasant toffee and biscuit aroma from the medium brown body. Toffee and caramel and nutty flavors, which are balanced by just a bit of bitterness. Very pleasant, and not bad at all for a mass-produced beer!

Thought this was pretty good actually... guess I was wrong, because this got a mere 36.3 style pctl. It’s all about the style pctl, I usually pre-screen in a short interview with the beer so I don’t waste my time with anything below a 50 but... affirmative action, you know.
