Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

12oz bottle courtesy of Degarth. Thanks Joe. Pours a brown body with ruby red highlights and a 1.5 finger creamy off white head. Superb head retention and nice sheets of lacing. Good looking brew. Aromas of nutty malts, floral hops, caramel and bread dough. Fore of the tongue is sweet malts, dough, nuts and fruit notes. Back of the tongue holds hop spice, caramel and malts. Medium to heavy astringency on the tongue. Palate is thin to medium bodied. Finish is of medium length. Bitterness from the hops gives way to a sweet toasted note from the malts and nuts. Decent brew.

Pours with moderate white/amber head. Color is reddish brown with no carbonation. The aroma is carmel and toasting...faint but inviting. Taste left a lot to be desired. Ordinary taste with a rich color.

POurs dark brown and shows light notes of malt on the nose. The palate shows muted notes of walnuts and malt. The finish is nice and chewy. It offers a good texture.

Pours a translucent amber-brown color. Pour creates a beautiful, thick rocky head with superb retention throughout the entire glass. Muted aromas of toasted bread, nuts, caramel candy, toffee and crystal malts can be barely detected. Palate reveals a medium body with a slightly thin and watery mouthfeel noted mid-palate. Flavors are slightly more assertive than the nose with notes of cookie dough, caramel, nuts, toasted malt and a faint citrus flavor coming through. Pleasant clean, semi-dry finish balances out the sweet malt contributions. A slightly above average Brown Ale.

One of the beers I have had in their mix 12 pack and not really memorable, as is the case with most brown’s. Pours a cola color with a small and highly carbonated head. A slightly roasted malt aroma and taste, minimal hops if any. Watery and bland.

Bottle: Amber color, light head and nice lacing. Nose of light nut and crispy hop. The flavor is fairly neutral, nutty mouthfeel, over carbonated and thin. Hmm. Thin metallic mouthfeel too. Thanks Jake.

12 oz. bottle. Poured a amber color with off white head. Lacing stayed on glass all the way to the bottom. Watery mouthfeel. Not much going on here. Pretty much tastes like their Boston Lager only a little deeper in color.
