Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Deep amber to light brown body with a rocky light beige head. Notes of yeast and molasses dominate the aroma. Flavor is of walnut, caramel candies and light coffee with a mild lingering English hop character. Decent but a bit sweet.

Caramel in color with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, honey, floral hops and molasses. Flavor has the bite of hops, but not much of their flavor. Rather sweet, honey malt flavor with molasses, too. Nice body for a brown. An inoffensive beer, nothing special.

Rated 10/5/06: Light brown pour, lots of lacing. Aroma is very sweet and malty with a tinge of floral hops. Watery on the palate I’m not very keen on the mouthfeel here. Flavor is promising but is overly sweet. Good mix of malts and hops, sweet with notes of caramel and bread. Decent brew.

Pours a bubbly, clear brown with a light off white head. Smells of some mild caramel and molasses, a little grainy as well. Nothing exciting. The taste is very light bodied, some nutty roast, but mild in flavor. Pretty easy drinking, but nothing really special going on. Finish is slightly bitter and the aftertaste is somewhat metallic. Drinkable.

Bottled. Poured coppery brown, with a tan, foamy head. Nose was malt and yeast. The flavor malty and a little nutty. The finish had some mild hop notes. Refreshing, but not noteworthy.

Bottle. 12 fl. oz. Clear reddish brown color with very small head. Very sweet caramel aroma. Little carbonation. Sweet caramel flavor with a dry finish.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts. The pour is a nice brown with a off tan head. The flavor is not exactly what the aroma leads you to believe. The caramel malts are there, but they are subtle. Instead, there is a light hoppy and citrus flavor. The beer is way to carbonated and a tad thinner then I like. An OK offering. I expected a bit more.
