Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Mar 27, 2007 Overall a flop of a brown ale. Very week in all the rateing categories. The only truely good quality this beer had is that a real decent aroma came forth as it warmed to room temperature. Otherwise it’s lacking in meeting the standards of being either a "brown ale" or a "good beer". The worst Sam Adams has to offer???? 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Mar 24, 2007 Bottle: Dark amber, moderate beige head, foamy, clingy lacing, strong carbonation.   Malty nose, slightly biscuity.   Rich malty flavor, a bit tangy.   Not as heavy or even roasty as other Browns.   Lighter, but still fairly decent.   Body and mouthfeel are average.   Finish however is a bit lacking.   Seems to fade quickly, leaving a slight astringent malt background.   It is okay, but after having the Black Lager not that long ago I was thinking this too would be another surprise.   Nope... basic Sam Adams I must say.   Decent, but nothing out of the ordinary.
obguthr (987), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Mar 23, 2007 This is not one of Sam Adams’ best and I’m a big fan. It had no aroma. It loooked like tea with a decent head. It had very little flavor. Amazingly, the spicy cinnamon finish was more pleasurable than drinking it. This wasn’t a good beer and it definitely shouldn’t pretend to be a brown ale. golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Mar 21, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of caramel malt and some roasted malt. Palate is a little watery. Flavor is similar to the smells, and a little nutty. Not very good. GirlyBeer (183), Biddeford, Maine, USA Mar 18, 2007 Clear brown color. Think white head with large bubbles. Nice lacing. Mild hoppy aroma. Hops and aluminum in the aftertaste. Smooth. Not very strong flavor of nuts, hops, a hint of caramel, and unmalted grain. Not an outstanding brown ale, but not something I’d turn down. haddon90 (1035), Alexandria, Virginia, USA Mar 14, 2007 Pours a clear brown color with a decent sized off white head. Nice malty, nutty aroma. Malt dominates the taste. But there’s a hint of brown sugar and caramel that lingers in the background. Nice light hop finish. Overall, a pretty decent brown ale from Sam Adams! Airlifter (116), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Mar 11, 2007 Dark amber with a thick tan head. Nice aroma. Hoppy, but not bitter. Hint of apricot and a bit of chocolate. A bit thin, but very nice. BeNobleDark (59), Allendale, Michigan, USA Mar 9, 2007 This brew is very similair to Sam Adam’s Black Lager, but mellowed down some. This is a toasty ale, with a heavy body and distinguished flavor. Not terribly hoppy, but just enough to give it a good, complex flavor. The malts provide a great, smooth texture and fill out the tones of chocolate, spices, and cream. A very good brew that left me surprised, and wanting more!
