Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

big tan head that soon fades to minimal; a bit o’ lace, light carbonation. Nice brownish red. A little more bitter than a prototypical brown. a bit soft in the mouth. just ok. this is from a bottle I brought home from Bodega downtown La Crosse.

12oz bottle-A body of brown with a little off white head. Aroma of caramel, smoke, and a little hops. Taste of hops, caramel, and malt. Not bad but I don’t think it fits a brown. A little too much hops.

Bottle, date-notched "May." Well, a six of Sam is usually welcome in my house, and the price was right (under $6), so here it is. Pours a medium dark brown color under a rocky tan head. Head shows some good tenacity. Smell has plenty of caramel roasted malts to it, with a bit of hop. Taste, though, just doesn’t do it for me. Way too nutty, with bitterness that latches on to the back of the tongue. This is on top of a nice malt base, mind you. Hops are actually too sharp for this profile; not agressive and citrussy, like a pale ale, but just fighting against the malts with the wrong gloves. Am I wrong here, or does this just rub me the wrong way; after all, I liked the concept of the Patriot pack if not the execution; or maybe I shouldn’t have tried this after a slice of smoked Gouda cheese. Will try another bottle later.

Deep reddish brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma is sweet and nutty. Flavor starts nutty and caramel sweet followed by a moderate bitterness and a light dry finish. Medium bodied and smooth with moderate carbonation.

more toffee flavored compared to newcastle brown ale. Decent beer, yet nothing special.

A nice light malty beer with some caramel and maybe some smoke. Color is a nice brownish red with a creamy tan head. Very refreshing.
