AdamGott (190), Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Feb 9, 2007 Updated: Feb 10, 2007pours a nice copper brown (a little thin looking IMHO), aroma mostly a lighly sweet malt with little hops, From a 24 pack purchased at Sam’s Club. a little thin. mynameisjonas (206), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Feb 7, 2007 decent tasting brown ale. not the caliber of newcastle but it still tastes good JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia Feb 5, 2007 Dark brown body, however a little thin when held to light. Head is toasted, yellowish, and hangs for a bit. Aroma is caramel, chocolate and bitter coffee. Taste is sweet honey and caramel balanced by the asaid coffee. After is a bit drying and bitter from the hops. Decent beer. gwpom (246), Akron, New York, USA Feb 2, 2007 12 oz bottle. A bit average from one of my favorite breweries. I guess I need to refine my palate a bit, because I keep hearing (or reading) about the metalic taste, and I just don’t get that at all. However, I’m keeping that in mind when I taste a SA, and maybe eventually I’ll pick up on it. All I know is I do generally like the SA line, I like the various choices available, and this is no exception. Nice round flavor, light brown in color, white head that hangs on a while, and full mouthfeel. Still like their darker brews better. JohnnyZ (80), USA Jan 31, 2007 Good. Underrated by all means. Good. good. good. Fresh and drinkable. Better than the black. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jan 27, 2007 I’m pretty sure this is the same beer as the Boston Ale. Actually, I tasted them side by side and the beers are about as different as their labels. The color is a shade darker. The aromas are indistinguishable. And, the flavor is just a touch less hoppy. Otherwise, it’s the same caramel sweetness with metallic hops. The more I drink the more I hate these beers. I’m beginning to think that nasty metallic flavor isn’t from hops at all, but from their proprietary yeast strain. I was trying to remember what other beers I’ve found it in and the last one I can remember is Sam Adams’ own Pale Ale. I think there’s probably a touch of diacetyl with it, which would again point to the yeast. I had high hopes for this mix pack, but this may be the last time I buy an ale from this brewer. This is just a touch more enjoyable than the Boston Ale, but neither impressed me at all.
