Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

Dark brown body, however a little thin when held to light. Head is toasted, yellowish, and hangs for a bit. Aroma is caramel, chocolate and bitter coffee. Taste is sweet honey and caramel balanced by the asaid coffee. After is a bit drying and bitter from the hops. Decent beer.

12 oz bottle. A bit average from one of my favorite breweries. I guess I need to refine my palate a bit, because I keep hearing (or reading) about the metalic taste, and I just don’t get that at all. However, I’m keeping that in mind when I taste a SA, and maybe eventually I’ll pick up on it. All I know is I do generally like the SA line, I like the various choices available, and this is no exception. Nice round flavor, light brown in color, white head that hangs on a while, and full mouthfeel. Still like their darker brews better.

Good. Underrated by all means. Good. good. good. Fresh and drinkable. Better than the black.

I’m pretty sure this is the same beer as the Boston Ale. Actually, I tasted them side by side and the beers are about as different as their labels. The color is a shade darker. The aromas are indistinguishable. And, the flavor is just a touch less hoppy. Otherwise, it’s the same caramel sweetness with metallic hops. The more I drink the more I hate these beers. I’m beginning to think that nasty metallic flavor isn’t from hops at all, but from their proprietary yeast strain. I was trying to remember what other beers I’ve found it in and the last one I can remember is Sam Adams’ own Pale Ale. I think there’s probably a touch of diacetyl with it, which would again point to the yeast. I had high hopes for this mix pack, but this may be the last time I buy an ale from this brewer. This is just a touch more enjoyable than the Boston Ale, but neither impressed me at all.

(bottle) Orangey-brown body with small, bubbly tan head. Nice malt nose contains sweetness/caramel and light roast; hops are also present. Medium bodied, carbonated. Flavor is medium sweet, nuts, biscuit, caramel, with a dry hoppy finish.
