KDorgan12 (163), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Jan 18, 2007 Bottle-Memphis. Beautiful brown ale but flavors are very thin. Perhaps too much carbonation. Not as smooth as a Newcastle. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 13, 2007 Pours a clear reddish brown, topped by a good inch of creamy light tan foam. Good head retention and very nice thick foamy lacing. Semi sweet chocolate and a little maraschino cherry in the aroma.
Malty flavor of light chocolate, biscuit, and toasted almond. These are balanced by a mild hoppiness with a clean bitterness in the finish. A hint of chocolate remains in the aftertaste. Lightish body, too light actually, but with lots of soft and gentle carbonation. WSSmiles (124), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2007 this beer had a brown body with a hint of red with a dirty white (boy) head. Agree with other post that it felt like there was more alcohol then what was present. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Jan 6, 2007 The taste on this one was a bit rough I really thought the alcohol was higher than 5.3 but hey. Malts were ok a bit one dimentional, yeast was fairly predominate esters were quite present. and hops were light. Sam adams has done better. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Jan 4, 2007 Pours dark mahogany with a fully receding tan head. Aroma of caramel, crystal malt, and a strange graininess. Taste is sweet crystal, caramel, and a bit of fruitiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Decent, but not worth buying. brownaler (379), Topsail Beach, North Carolina, USA Jan 3, 2007 Diacetyl aroma with a a clear brown body. Flavor is smooth with crystal hop flavor and a slight malt finish. Too watery for even a brown. bkurtz (276), Peru Jan 3, 2007 Poured brownish amber with a small, quickly fading head. Nice hop aroma, nutty. Very true brown ale style, which is not my favorite. Well made, but nothing special. DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Dec 31, 2006 Bottle. I found this beer to have a bland taste for a brown ale, not my favorite in the style. Mostly malt in the flavor, wish it had more nutty notes.
