Gus (29), Chesapeake, Virginia, USA Dec 20, 2006 Pours a very dar copper to tan. Aroma is a nutty smell with some choclate apparent. Head is thin and off white-tan in color, lacing is moderate down the sides of the glass. Flavor is malty with slight choclate in taste, goes down very smooth leaving no bitter aftertaste, very light in carbonation. Not sweet and not dry if that makes sense to anyone. It just feels right after taking a good size drink. I find this ale to be very refreshing, and would reccommend this to other ale drinkers. BeerHeadBobby (142), In Hiding.., Florida, USA Dec 18, 2006 Bottled - Pours a dark brownish red.. Nose is bitter malts with caramel tones... Taste is a basic brown ale.. slightly bitter.. but nothing jumps out.. this is a pretty good drinkable beer from good ol’ Sam Adams.. nice mansquito (819), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Dec 18, 2006 This beer has a kind of thick head that actually descends actually. Has an amber brown colour and has an earthy beer smell that ain’t that strong. Not very bitter, but definately a little bit on the bitter side. Has a little porter like taste on the finish (standard coffee+chocolate thing). Not overwhelming, but there is a little taste of alcohol at the end, little sweet right around there. Overall a pretty good brown ale. ajolly2 (123), USA Dec 17, 2006 Thick, white head. Dark red/copper/amber color. Brown sugar; roasted coffee beans; nice malt; citrus hops. Thick lacing. Very smooth finish. Overall, very good. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Dec 9, 2006 Bottle. Poured a nice attractive shade of brown with a creamy white head. Nice lacing on glass and proper amount of carbonation. Thin mouthfeel. Malty taste. I liked it, but prefer the Cream Stout or Black Lager. sunb1rd (4), clayton, New York, USA does not count Dec 8, 2006 Nutty aroma and taste, hint of caramel. Enjoyable Aftertaste. Very light beer, not too bitter. I Enjoyed it. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 5, 2006 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated brown colored body. The mild aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The thin flavor contained notes of brown malt. An OK brew just nothing special. Aegrus (49), USA Dec 4, 2006 Bottled. Pint Glass. Samuel Adams does deliver a very good-looking beer, as usual. More clear than their black lager with the same mahogany coloring. Much thinner head. Lively carbonation in an otherwise thin body. Malty flavor that is well-hopped. Not particularly impressive, but drinkable.
