Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Oct 5, 2006 12oz. bottle. Aroma is toasty, bready and nutty, some light caramel sweetness detected along with a very gentle amount of floral hop. Attractive true medium brown color, clear, with a lasting, creamy head. Flavor of lightly roasty and sweet malts combined with tangy, lightly citric hop which is more pronounced towards the end. Some further caramel and lightly woody accents. Light-medium body with a goodly amount of effervescence and tangy palate. Not objectionable. Was kind of in the mood for a Brown tonight, which is kind of rare anymore. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 4, 2006 Nutty in the nose, pouring a nice caramel brown. Tastes mostly of caramelized (lightly!) nuts with a bit of barley, a smooth beer that can chase away summer heat, but is nothing to get worked up about. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Oct 2, 2006 Good but I’m not going to be writing any poems about it. Nutty, inoffensive, nice to look at but my soul isn’t satisfied and my tongue is underwhelmed. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 28, 2006 It’s not a bad brown ale. Pours a reddish brown. Good full white head. It’s got a hazle nut taste in their. I was glad to try it. This beer doesn’t keep well though. Even though I kept it in the fridge its shelf life was 1 week and a half. This happened more then once. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 26, 2006 12oz, notched <!-- i -->Best before Nov 2006<!-- /i -->. Pours a copper brown with a one finger dissipating yellow beige head. I’ve got some chocolate roastiness, nuts and sugary sweet malts in the aroma. Taste has a little more bitter chocolatey roastiness, some nuts again, and a little bit of tang in there--I can’t really pick up on any hops. Mild bitterness at its peak. Mod to high carbonation, light to medium bodied. Not a bad beer, but nothing interesting here. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Sep 24, 2006 Had a bottle of this last night (9/24/2006) at a friend’s annual poker party...
Clear, dark amber color. Moderate carbonation with a thick off white head. Aroma and flavors were malty with some chocolate and caramelized sugar coming through. Sweet and roasty as well. There were some hops and bitterness in the finish, but not quite enough for a brown ale (in my opinion). This beer also had a medium body and was pretty smooth going down. Over all it was pretty well balanced, but just a little bit more hoppiness would have made it better than average.
I always find Sam Adams beers to be a good representation of the particular style, smooth, and above average. They are good introductory beers to each style for people just starting to explore. They are also great stand-by brews and good for session drinking!
12 oz bottle (from the Brewmaster’s Collection mixed 12-pack). ilikestuff (222), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 21, 2006 Not a very good brown if I may say so. I really like brown ale’s, but this one just isn’t that good. Has a pungent metallic flavor and isn’t nearly as full bodied as I would hope for.. A below average brew. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Sep 19, 2006 Updated: Jan 6, 2007FIRST RATING: Brown not-quite-opaque body with a couple inch thick light tan head. Fair bit of lacing. Smells malty, with caramel or chocolate notes. Tastes roasty, malty with little hops to speak of. A medium to heavy bodied beer. Not the best brown ale I’ve had, but a nice brown ale.
SECOND RATING (1-07):Translucent brown body with ruby red highlights and about an inch of light tan head that leaves a fair bit of lacing. Smells sweet and malry with some roasty character. Roasted malt dominate the flavor, with hints of burnt malt. Medium bodied, but a bit lighter than I expected. Rather drinkable and very tasty. A decent beer.
