MrBunn (801), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle. Body is a dark brown with red highlights. Head sits at about a finger and dies down to a thin film. Aromas are earthy with a little bit of sourness. Flavor is much the same as aroma... sourness is a little heavier than expected and earthy (wet soil) flavor is nice and there is a hint of sweet and roasted malt in the background. Nota lot of complexity, but pleasant enough.
GMUcrew7 (158), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours completely transparent brown with a tan head. Nice malty aroma with a heavy caramel backing. Flavor is a little more of a complex malt variety with some nuts and a pretty decent hop balance. Has a watery cheap beer palate that detracts from the beer. carruthm (316), USA Jul 2, 2008 I’m a sucker for brown ales and Sam Adams does a credible one. Reddish tinge, small head, expected nuts and caramel nose, but like many SA beers, too watery of a finish. Oakes (6793), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bright reddish-brown. No head. The aroma is nutty and caramelly. Decent body. Toasty, with a hint of chocolate sweetness. Thin in the finish. Jblauvs (113), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jun 22, 2008 brown pour with a frothy tan head. malty aromas come through the metallic nose. a little over carbonated, some caramel malt and nuttiness. Not bad overall Badabing (18), USA Jun 19, 2008 Dark, nice aroma nice with food just the right amount of hops. I tried the Sam Adams Varity pack and this was the first one I tried.
