Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

A good SA beer. Malty and a tad bit of sweetness. Hops are present at finish, but barely. Worth drinking, but there are cetainly better beers to be had.

Bottle. Sweet maple syrup malt aroma. Brownish copper color with small head. Light slightly sweet maple syrup malt flavor - slightly acidic with moderate carbonation. Decent taste but not much body.

Deep copper. Rich head that crackles as it subsides. Sweet malt aroma with hop notes. Quaffable brown. Subtle hops. Lingering malt sweetness.

Watery aroma capped by moderate malts and hops. Average creamy off-white head covering a clear, medium brown body. Extremely watery taste and a watery mouthfeel with light astringency on the finish. Not a great choice for my first brown ale.

Pours dark reddish brown with a medium light tan head and decent lacing. The aroma is pretty nice, with toasted malt and nuts primarily. Medium-bodied and relatively smooth with a good malt foundation, with some nuts and hops as well. The finish is thin but has a nice roasty malt flavor while it lasts. If the finish were more robust this would be a really great session beer, as it stands it’s still above average.

Aroma of caramel sweetness and some hops. Clear, brown coloured with a lasting, off-white head. Taste is sweet, caramelly, bit spicy, slighly hoppy, sparkling, nutty. Not really impressive.

Bottle: Dark amber, moderate beige head, foamy, clingy lacing, strong carbonation.   Malty nose, slightly biscuity.   Rich malty flavor, a bit tangy.   Not as heavy or even roasty as other Browns.   Lighter, but still fairly decent.   Body and mouthfeel are average.   Finish however is a bit lacking.   Seems to fade quickly, leaving a slight astringent malt background.   It is okay, but after having the Black Lager not that long ago I was thinking this too would be another surprise.   Nope... basic Sam Adams I must say.   Decent, but nothing out of the ordinary.
