Nutty and bready malt aroma, hints of roasted malt, pear and brown sugar. Nutty malt flavor, some light fruit, a little soapy quality, some mild hop bitterness lending to a crisp finish. Thin body. A fairly average beer, not something I would probably ever seek out again, but I would drink this over macro. beerbomb (172), New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 14, 2006 Pours nicely -looks really good-aroma is complex with nutty malts. Flavor doesnt match aroma in the way of fullness. A little bitterness comes through at the end that takes a lot away from the weak malt flavor. I’m not saying this is bad but really needs a fuller malt presence. Didnt like it that much overall ElPresidente1984 (173), Maine, USA

Pours deep translucent brown with ruby highlights and a white head. Nice looking beer. Aroma is sugary and nutty. Texture is slightly thin. Flavor has a strong walnut like nuttiness balanced by a mild spicy hop bitterness. Some toastiness comes out in the finish. 2005 Beer Lovers Choice Winner? What was the criteria, a beer that BMC drinkers will tolerate? This can’t be the best beer of all the choices presented. This is as exciting as looking through my wife’s mail order clothing catalogues. "The Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue." It does not satisfy my soul, but yes it does not overwhelm the tongue, thats for sure Likeburning (149), Franklin, Tennessee, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 21, 2006 Into a shaker, it poured a clear reddish-brown, with a small, short-lived beige head. Aroma is caramel malts and some maple. Malt flavors dominate the flavor, with some nuttiness. Hops are barely noticable. Fairly thin bodied, with a short-to-medium length roasted malt finish. This beer is definitely drinkable and enjoyable, but nothing special. mrchug645 (71), alb, New Mexico, USA
