Commercial Description:
The Brown Ale is a traditional beer related to the first beers ever brewed commercially. Brewed with an interesting blend of malts, including pale two-row Harrington, Metcalfe, and Maris Otter malt, Caramel, Munich, and roasted Carafa malts, the Brown Ale shines with a deep mahogany luster. The malt flavor is complex and deep as well, with notes of biscuit, nut, and caramel. With moderate hop bitterness, a deep malt body, and a fruity ale fermentation character, the Samuel Adams Brown Ale satisfies the soul and doesn’t overwhelm the tongue.

This ale poured a deep brown colour with a nice foamy, thick tan head. To the nose there is scents of brown sugar, ripe fruit and cocoa. First taste was smooth with flavours of molassas, caramel and a hint of hopps. The palate is rich and malty. Pretty good for such a large brewery.

Pours black walnut shell brown with a medium beige head that lasts a while. Aroma is quite malty, bitter almost tannic nuttyness, grains, and some sweet peanut brittle. Flavor is a little washed out still heavily bent on malt. Fresh baked wheat dinner rolls, caramel, brazil nuts. FInish is pretty weak some planty malt, with a little bitter and spicy hops. Body is pretty thin.

(bottle - 12 oz) Nut brown color with a puffy tan head. Aroma is nutty and malty with some light sweet hints along with a touch of hop bitterness and some biscuit. Flavor is malty at the beginning with a light nutty note, a bready middle, and a watery and lightly bitter finish. A bit watery.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark mahogany with bright blood red highlights. Light tan head that displays typically average lace and retention. Sweet, simple aroma of toasted bread, toffee, and nuts. Rather weak flavor, tastes like malt flavored perrier. Nondescript brown maltiness with little complexity or hoppiness. Body is thin and watery. A pretty crummy attempt at the style.

Bottle. Nice walnut color with fizzy head that fades quickly. Nice nutty, toasty malt aroma with a bit of spiced bread. Medium bodied with a nice creamy mouthfeel and a tingle of carbonation. A really decent brown ale.
