On draught at the International Great Beer Expo in Uniondale. Pours a clear deep brown that still allows light to pass through with a tan head. Pleasant aroma of cherries and chocolate. The flavor is black cherries with chocolate and a bit of caramel. Definitely a sweeter beer, which I enjoy. Medium bodied. An enjoyable beer for me.

Bottle; from winter sampler. Really liked the original chocolate bock, so I hope this is at least near that level. Dark brown to black with a light brown head. Aroma of cherries, Dr. Pepper, with some muted chocolate and caramel notes. Definitely not an improvement. Not bad, but a bit messy. Some sweet and tart cherry flavor; not too "fake" or medicinal which was good. Some dry chocolate notes and earthiness in the finish. Palate was a little weak. Does get better throughout. Good overall.

Draft at mellow mushroom. Pours black with a thin khaki head though this might not be accurate since the beer was served in a refrigerated glass. Definite cherry notes on the nose but they’re more of the sticky sweet variety. Not getting much chocolate on the tongue but definitely more sweet cherry. Finishes clean. Not bad but hoping this was going to be better.

Pours nearly black, rubied, with a thick tan head.
Chocolate and cherry aroma....(surprise!)
Taste is creamy, milk chocolate over cherries.
Cherry is just right, not overpowering.
Chocolate is velvety rich.

Pour is an almost black with a large tan head. Aroma is cherry and maybe a bit of chocolate. Flavor is actually more of the chocolate with a minor cherry. Kinda like a cherry cordial. Not much different than the chocolate bock but with a little cherry flavoring added.

Bottle. The smell is one of the worst things I have ever put near my nose, and I used to work with some nasty shit in a chemistry lab. The smell is sickeningly sweet and SUPER cherry, like cough syrup. And not good cough syrup. The chocolate comes through underneath in the taste, but the cherries are the first thing you get. Not really a fan of this one. Oy.

Pours clear dark brown with a tan head.
Aroma of chocolate cordial cherries in a box.
The flavor follows what you expect to get from the aroma.
A bit artificially sweet to me.

12/29/2013: Samuel Adams Cherry Chocolate Bock Special Release... Aroma and flavor are overwhelmingly cherry medice at first, but as the beer has a chance to breathe a bit, it also improves. The cherry mellows out to a dark cherry and becomes way less medicinal and the soft cocoa nibs and Tootsie Roll-like milk chocolate is more evident. I particularly like the molasses and smoky caramel characteristics in the finish. I liked the old Chocolate Bock and enjoy this beer for the most part as well, although the cherry might be a bit too much at times. Drinks a bit like a chocolate covered liqueur-filled cherry! The moderate level of alcohol is nice, but this one doesn’t necessarily go down too quickly since it seems to have a thicker body to it. The deep, chocolate brown color with a reddish tint and dense, ivory-colored head are nice too. Overall, this is a solid brew that is quite appropriate for the holiday season. 12 fl. oz. bottle (5.8% ALC/VOL; Enjoy Before MAY14) from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #263 for this beer.
