COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special release is brewed just for the holidays. For a new approach to a classic favorite, we added cherries to our traditional Chocolate Bock for a sweet, slightly tart note. Aged on a bed of dark cocoa nibs, the malty, chocolaty, and dark fruit flavors create a rich, complex beer perfect for winter. Cheers!

12oz bottle in Seattle. Dark black-brown, foam. As you’d expect, cherry and chocolate, some coffee roast malts. Big sweet cherry pit, red fruit over dark malt. Sweet cherry candy, tootsie roll. Creamy, good body. Tasty for what it is, which is an over sweet fruity novelty.

26 dec 2013, bottle. Dark burgundy/brown. Nose is canned maraschino cherries. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Cherries are tamed by toasted grain and almost a ginger ale flavor no guess it is nice enough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

tap (jan 6, 2012) - Pours very dark amber with a small head. The aroma is really dominated by the cherries. It tastes sweet with cherries at the forefront then the chocolate. The sweetness carries into the finish. This medium bodied brew is like drinking a chocolate covered cherry. It’s sweet but not cloying. Good.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Pours very dark but clear with no sediment in the bottle. The tan head is thin and short-lived. Aroma: chocolate covered cherries, and not Godiva quality, with a faint bready malt base. Flavor: Thankfully, this is not nearly as sweet or candy-like as the smell suggests. Still, lightly sweet with prominent cherry flavor that eventually fades to let the chocolate come thru in the aftertaste. Feel: medium body with medium-light carbonation.

Pour is an almost black with a large tan head. Aroma is cherry and maybe a bit of chocolate. Flavor is actually more of the chocolate with a minor cherry. Kinda like a cherry cordial. Not much different than the chocolate bock but with a little cherry flavoring added.

On draught at the International Great Beer Expo in Uniondale. Pours a clear deep brown that still allows light to pass through with a tan head. Pleasant aroma of cherries and chocolate. The flavor is black cherries with chocolate and a bit of caramel. Definitely a sweeter beer, which I enjoy. Medium bodied. An enjoyable beer for me.

Initial whiff is Dr. Pepper, cherry dies out in the flavor and gives way to the chocolate, with some cherry/Dr. Pepper in the background. Sweetness hides the alcohol content. Finish is dry and somewhat chalky. A bit sweeter than is the norm for a winter beer, but interesting nonetheless. Gets better with each sip.

12/29/2013: Samuel Adams Cherry Chocolate Bock Special Release... Aroma and flavor are overwhelmingly cherry medice at first, but as the beer has a chance to breathe a bit, it also improves. The cherry mellows out to a dark cherry and becomes way less medicinal and the soft cocoa nibs and Tootsie Roll-like milk chocolate is more evident. I particularly like the molasses and smoky caramel characteristics in the finish. I liked the old Chocolate Bock and enjoy this beer for the most part as well, although the cherry might be a bit too much at times. Drinks a bit like a chocolate covered liqueur-filled cherry! The moderate level of alcohol is nice, but this one doesn’t necessarily go down too quickly since it seems to have a thicker body to it. The deep, chocolate brown color with a reddish tint and dense, ivory-colored head are nice too. Overall, this is a solid brew that is quite appropriate for the holiday season. 12 fl. oz. bottle (5.8% ALC/VOL; Enjoy Before MAY14) from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #263 for this beer.
