Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat® follows the centuries old American tradition of brewing beer with native ingredients, in this case Michigan cherries as well as a touch of honey. The sweet fruitiness of the cherries is balanced against the crisp, cereal note from the malted wheat and the subtle citrus flavor from the Noble hops. The end result is a sweet, refreshing beer that is light on the palate but long on complexity. Introduced in 1995 as a summer seasonal brew, Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat® developed a large enough following to be introduced as a year round style. Its distinct cherry character has made it one of the most unique and well liked styles of Samuel Adams® beer ever. Cherries are added at two different points during the brewing process. Once during the mash and again during finishing.

i like sam adams, i like that they never stand pat with their offerings... i like that they are open to (and seem to encourage) new ideas... but this and most of their other fruity brews are not at the top of my list. The first one goes down okay but immediately i’m ready for something else... someone here mentioned a medicinal taste and i’d say that’s about what i was experiencing... too much syrup.

Local bottle. Good concept, poor execution. Just really seemed very artificial to me in the aroma and flavour. Had an astringent, medicinal taste with some random bitterness popping through at times. I’m not a Sam Adams hater at alll but this was not good.

Bottle. Amber reddish color, little white head. Aroma is malts, cherry. Flavor is somewhat tart with a cherry finish, a great fruit beer, probably my favorite one.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a medium sized, white, quickly-dissipating head. Aroma is straight cherry - nothing else. Flavor is a blend of cherry and wheat. One of the best fruit beers I’ve ever had. I suspect this is because cherries are added during the finishing process euch that the result is a sweeter product which does not taste rotten like some fruit beers.

Bottle. Pours an amber reddish color with a little white head. Aroma is malts, cherry, and other subtle fruits. Flavor is somewhat tart with a cherry finish. Very drinkable, but not something I am going to be drinking a lot of.

Bottle, pint glass, approximately 40deg F. This beer is close to undrinkable. It has an aroma of cough syrup and has a finish that is consistent with the initial impression. The is no "complexity", rather it is either cough syrup or wheat. Its too sweet, there is little hop flavor or aroma, and you can forget about any balance. I do like other Sam Adams beers but this one is not very good. If I had to come up with a single word - nasty - about covers it. The only thing it really has going for it is an interesting reddish/amber color. I’m not sure why the ratings are so high for this particular beer.

On tap. Poured clear amber. Smelled like fake cherries. Flavor of faint cherrys and skunky wheat. Overly carbonated, felt like champagne. Not very good.
