Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® partnered with Scharffen Berger Chocolate to develop their newest innovation, Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock. Tettnang Tettnanger and Spalt hops were hand-selected from the world's oldest growing area and combined with a complex selection of malts including two row Pale, Munich and caramel to create a rich and satisfying brew. This dark beer has a big, malty character that is combined with the subtle sweetness of chocolate. The chocolatiers at Scharffen Berger crafted an exclusive blend of chocolate for Samuel Adams® made with cocoa beans from Ghana called forastero. Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock was aged on a bed of this chocolate to create its unique layers of flavor. As the beer matured, the fruity, tart, earthy and chocolate aromas were infused into the liquid to give the brew a complex, full-bodied taste with a velvety finish. A hint of vanilla was added to meld the symphony of flavors together. Due to legal restrictions, Samuel Adams® Chocolate Bock can not be sold in the states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Utah.

Deep amber color with a medium tan head. Very velvety and smooth but the flavor and aroma are a little mild with hints of chocolate. Tastes like a sweet stout. Pretty good, malty and lightly roasted but not really worth the hefty price tag.

Pricey Pricey 750ml bottle from Bevmo in La Jolla. Pours black with a tan head. Nose is sweet and chocolaty with a nice malty edge. Taste is chocolaty, sweet, well balanced and overall pretty damn nice. i guess Im glad this is better than I expected so I can be happy that I spent some money.

Reviewed 12/4/2008 (bottle BB April 09): Pours a very dark reddish color. Small off-white head. Coffee, chocolate aromas. Not a strong aroma, weak. Milk chocolate taste. Cocoa aftertaste. Very tasty. Sweet Like a milk stout. Probably the best chocolate beer I’ve ever had. And one of the best tasting beers overall.

Really pricey as a bottle (and on tap) and not worth it compared to many good and better chocolate-powered beers now available. Chocolate liquor, thinned down. A nice one though.A little chocolately and simple in aroma.

On tap at Cole’s. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee notes, deep copper, tiny tan head, some lace. Taste is a bit like chocolate syrup, some pitfruits, especially cherry, almonds too. Medium bodied, complex for only 5%, bitter, mellow, very satisfying. Terrific.

Ehhh, pretty good. Easy drinker that’s for sure. Plenty of roastiness, smokiness and sweet chocolate. This one is just as it’s described. Pricey though. One and done.

Bottle. Light malt aromas of toasted, coffee and dark chocolate, herbs for the hops and broth for the yeast with hints of cola and dried fig. Head is creamy, off-white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and acidic to start and finishes lightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery and has a lively to fizzy carbonation. An okay beer, sweet and malty, but just like any SA nothing over the top.
