COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designated as 'Sample B', this coffee stout is the other offering for the 2008 Beer Lover's Choice Contest being run by Samuel Adams. Quite simply, this is being offered as "Ale with Coffee Beans", and nothing more to it.

Wow. Pitch black body with a thick brown head. Wonderfully inviting aroma of coffee and cream. Medium mouthfeel...very smooth. The taste matches the aroma. Smooth and sweet like a sweetened iced coffee. There’s an appropriate bite at the end. Bravo.

Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep red-brown-black body. Potent coffee in nose and body, balanced by toasty notes. Dry with slight sweetness and massive cocoa notes. Astringent coffee finish.

decent body light tons of cold coffee. Not too sweet. Still not much depth.

a good moderately smooth and creamy substantial mouthfeel. Nice flavors of coffee with a pleasant mocha taste right at the finish. good alcohol kick without intruding in the flavor. light dark fruit flavor off in the backround just wafting in for a moment. just the lightest touch of acrid seems to me to be the definition of roasted as hardly experienced before. not in any way like a Sammy i have ever had before. a winner!

Pour is dark with a rich creamy head. Aroma is full and sweet with rich coffee presence. Flavor is full and bold. Certainly a good bit of coffee flavor there. Possibly a bit too much. Palate is very smooth which makes it pretty drinkable.

Bottle in a wine glass. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee and light hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent coffee stout.

Back log sampled for contest. This was an actual solid beer. Look like a java stout and had the aroma of roast and coffee. A good mouthfeel. It was good.

I first have to preface this with the fact that I am not a coffee drinker and really not a fan of coffee. I sampled this at the Octoberfest gathering in September. The appearance is a dark black. Not very foamy with a browish small head. The smell was quite strong, hints of roasted coffee and toast. Has almost a charcoal flavor to it. The taste was a lot of the same flavors. Strong coffee flavor, seemed to be a bit off. Overall I was taken aback by how strong the coffee flavor was. It is a little overpowering and does not leave much in the way of any other flavor. The recipe adjusted slightly might bring about a more rounded taste.

Had while visiting the Boston Brewery. The experience and the beer where great. It should have won over the Blackberry Whitbier!

3 oz sample.... which i voted for and unfortunately it didn’t win... it wasn’t a superb coffee stout, but i thought the world already had enough fruit flavor beers. so i voted for this one... thin pour and palate but pleasant coffee taste, a good on a brisk night... would have bought a six pack if possible..
