FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 10, 2008 Pours a light cloudy amber red with a small white head. Aroma is very sweet cranberry with a hint of tartness. Definitely lots of wheat and malt backbone as well. Flavor starts out with a strong sugary sweet malt and wheat. Picks up some citrus and cranberry notes midway through and finishes with a slight tartness before a lingering malt. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Definitely too sweet for a good lambic but not unpleasant and some nice wheat. Sparky27 (1567), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Dec 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish orange with a one finger white head. Nose is wheat, malt and light cranberry. Taste is much the same with a strange artificial aftertaste. Medium, prickly mouth feel. No where near a lambic... at all. CanIHave4Beers (838), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 9, 2008 Ive never had Samuel Adams Light however Im pretty sure that this is my least favorite brew from Sam Adams Which is a real pity because I do like a good lambic and it would be nice if something resembling one was slipped into those holiday 12 packs but sadly this is not the case This looks great when poured into a champagne glass it has the haziness and pink head of a good lambic or even a bad lambic I suppose but thats about where it ends. The beer has the faintest of yeasty and cranberry aromas. The flavor follows, it tastes a bit like watered down cranberry juice, sadly. There is a little bit of sourness, but really nothing to sink your teeth into.
I feel like Sam Adams didnt want to go the Lindemans route and make an alcipop with this one, but they didnt want to offend anyone with something traditional with a bit more flavor. So what we are left with is a fairly lifeless and bland beer. The description says it contains wild yeast, the stuff seems to be unfiltered. I guess if its not pasteurized I could age it and see if the flavor develops. Im guessing its pasteurized though and that wont do much for the stuff. Ill try anyway because the other ten beers in those holiday mixers are usually pretty tasty.
this lack of punctuation is killing me Wegro (218), Fresno, California, USA Dec 8, 2008 not sure why this is called a lambic. im no expert on belgium though. anyway, its very wheaty and has some artificial tasting cranberry flavor. watery and sort of weird. id take it over blue moon full moon winter ale any day though georgekillian (184), USA Dec 7, 2008 amazing beer only found in the holiday pack i picked this up at a local supermarket and was pleasentaly surprised with how good it was Moggman (187), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours slightly red with little white head. Aroma is sweet, slightly spicy, almost like a belgian triple. Flavor is not as sweet as the aroma would lead you to believe. Slight tartness from the cranberries. GlassBrass440 (7), Rockford, Illinois, USA does not count Dec 6, 2008 Pours cloudy red with little to no head. Aroma is sugary sweet and slightly smoky. Flavor is sweet but not as sweet as I was expecting for a lambic. The cranberries lend a sour/tart quality that is actually quite nice. Medium body and a less than satisfying finish. Not superb, but better than I was expecting based on the reviews. milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Dec 6, 2008 Oh my....where to begin....I am not sure what is worse, drinking this, or drinking...well...I can not think of anything worse. Way too sweet, flavors are completely unbalanced. Disappointing that SA every brewed something like this.
