COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adamsģ Cranberry Lambic is a fruit beer that draws its flavor not just from the cranberries it is brewed with, but also from the unique fermentation character imparted by the rare wild yeast strain. The result is a flavor rich in fruitiness and reminiscent of cranberries and bananas, cloves and nutmeg. The yeast fermentation also will create a slight sourness on the sides of the palate, a signature of the original Lambic style which, with the subtle cereal note from the wheat malt, remind its drinker that, as fruity a beer as this is, it is still a beer.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2004 Bottle pours an orange hue with adequate carbonation & lacing. Aroma is acidic with a minor apple smell. Initial taste is again acidic, with what could be best described as a cross between a pear, an apple, cranberries, and a squeeze of lemon. Moderate sweetness coats the mouth upon finishing. Compared to previous years, I find this one isn't as offensive.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev. Now donít get me wrong, this wasnít *vile* but ... Poured cloudy orange with a small off-white head. Oddly sweet/sour aroma of sweet oak resin malt, paint thinner, caramel, burnt straw - dusty dry but cloying and tart at the same time. Taste - oh! - tart cranberry, burnt sweet caramel - tart and cloying and a nasty almost chemical lingering aftertaste develops. Mouthfeel quite thick, syrupy, acidic and flat - I mean really thick, not in a good way. Weird beer - not a success, no matter what they were trying for.

12oz bottle, best before April. So this isnít an actual lambic? I guess Iíll have to spend a bit more to try my first real one, then. Surprising totally hazy pink/red color, minimal bubbly white head, some bubbles on the glass. Very little lace. This looks like what you might expect a strawberry-banana smoothie to look like. Turns out it tastes like a smoothie, too. Delivers on the fruit aroma, nice sweet cranberry flavor, but not much else here. Pretty tart, some sour. Sharper carbonation. Super-dry, almost chalky texture. Itís not exactly the most drinkable thing, and I wouldnít describe it as delicious, but itís interesting and aromatic. Just not very appealing, somehow (itís taking me a while to get through, after scarfing down an IPA I rated earlier). Maybe itís the cranberries? 3 oz of this was the perfect amount of this, it was enjoyable 1/4 the way in. 12oz is way too much.

Just really not that great... not very much like your traditional tangy Belgian lambic. Iíd take a real one over this any day.

BOTTLE: reddish pink pour, somewhat creamy head. Nose is cranberry and honey. Taste is cranberry, no where near as tart as I expected it would be. Very easy drinking, without much character.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev at the (hopefully last) íSaranac Vs. Samuel Adams sampler packs tastingí. Fifth beer of the night and the first Samuel Adams -- after the last 4 lacklustre Saranacs it can only be uphill from here right? Right? Pours a hazy dark orange with a small white head. Sweet, artificial-like aroma of cranberries with yeast and spices. The flavour is...interesting? Itís different thatís for sure. Fruit, maple syrup and malt -- starts decent enough but has a mildly unpleasant aftertase. Medium bodied. Overall itís quite mediocre, it definitely doesnít blow away those weak-ass Saranacs we had. itís a nice attempt at trying something different but for the most part it fails. I hope the next Sam Adams on the list is better...

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2008 Bottle. Appearance: Pink amber, eggshell head. Aroma: Sweet, tart and fruity. Cranberry dominates. Also a little wheaty. Palate: Medium/light. Flavor: Very sweet cranberry. Kind of tart. Was a weird, dairy, almost yogurt like sourness. Overall: I poured half of this beer down the drain. Iím not crazy about cranberry drinks in general. This one was just to much for me. Worst of their winter 12 pack by far.

First, as noted, this is NOT a lambic, does not have that fresh sour kick that many do. Bright red hue with a small pink head and almost no lacing. The aroma is that of cranberries with some light cereal, floral, and ginger twang. The taste is just god awful, fake cranberry tartness in a musty yeast body. The lingering aftertaste made me run for crackers and water. I like some well made fruit beers, this isn't one of them.
