UPDATED: DEC 14, 2003 This really shouldn't be called a stout. It has very few of the characteristics of a good stout. It's dark. That's about it. Overall, it tastes JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER SAMUEL ADAMS BEERS!! They all taste the same to me. I drank about a case of these before I decided that I really didn't like it. Maybe if you're a college kid trying to impress some chick with your sophisticated beer choice it's OK, and it is a bit cheaper than good stouts, but if you really want a good stout, pend the extra two bucks and get Guinness.

I tried it again. I wanted to heat it up and put marshmallows in it. Way too choclately. Maybe as a desert beer.

Subtle roasted malt aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Sweet, cream finish.

I was surprised how light-tasting this was, was expecting a heavier beer.

A decent stout, but there are alot more out there that are better.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20 opiate (199) - Sandy, Utah, USA - DEC 15, 2000
This was my favorite stout when I was relatively new to tasting different beers. (Shortly after by Bud daze.) Anyway... a good stout. A little thin in body, but smokey, roasty, and smooth.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2003 Dark burgundy colour. The aroma is creamy, almondy, and Oreo-like. Ultra sweet Vietnamese coffee, light roast on the palate. Fatty body…I have issues with that, but otherwise this is a serviceable sweet stout.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mike mcneil (660) - St Augustine, Florida, USA - NOV 3, 2000
A true milk or sweet stout (not ot be confused with a Dry or Irish stout like Guinness). Not in the league of a Mackeson’s, but still decent. Not real muscular, a bit on the lighter side for a stout. However, it maintains a very smooth texture, delicious chocolate/coffee/raisin aroma and flavor combined with a moderate appropriate mid-palate sweetness and a burnt/bitter follow through. A bit hard to find here in N. Fla.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 blatz (138) - Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Florida, USA - SEP 7, 2000
One of my favorite stouts - not overly heavy - nice hints of coffee and chocolate for a slightly sweet taste as opposed to the ashy, dry taste of other stouts. Lacy head that trails down the side of the glass. Top 3 brew from Sam - only major drawback is that they don’t distribute this in Florida!
