3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle pours a dark brown with substantial tan head and lacing. Smells of roasted malts. Aroma is full of roasted malts, toffee, ash, coffee, plastic, dark bread, walnuts, and dark syrup. Taste is sweet at first with a slighltly bitter finish. Body is medium to full without too much carbonation. Like the previous reviewer, I think of this as an interesting Baltic porter instead of a black IPA. Bizzarre, but well worth trying.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Well. I guess we live in a crazy era when it takes a mass produced Sam Adams beer to wash the taste of a shitty Cigar City beer out of my mouth... Pours a cola black, in other words dark ruby. Huge tan head... Much bigger head than I was expecting even with my very careful pour. Aromas of toffee, some hops but mostly cigarette butts (In a good way). Awesome. Taste is similar... Light roast, very lager-ish, very eastern European. Bad news: this isn’t a black IPA. Good news: this is a Baltic porter, which is quickly becoming my new favorite style of beer. And it’s executed very well. Sam Adams has a winner here, and not because they over hopped it, or imperialized it, but because they took the Baltic porter formula and executed it to perfection. Like.
