3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black, big sturdy brown head. Surprisingly bitter aroma, with some creamy, milky notes, A bit of coffee and dark chocolate aroma in the background. I get a little bit of cedar and Euro-hop, as well. Flavor is a bit more coffee and chocolate forward than the aroma suggests, but still pretty hoppy. Crisp, cedery finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 ounce bottle. Poured dark, I was a bit surprised by how dark. Solid malt character, bready, toasty, grainy, and prune/plum. Some pine, earthy, and floral hop notes. This is a great, easy drinking beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle as part of the sampler 12 pack. Clear dark brown pour, very little carbonation and dark malt and a little nice sweet hops. Flavor is definitely more on the porter side, peat and dark malt, a little sweet burnt sugar and some noticeable hops. Good, but I probably wouldn’t buy it on it’s own

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 Oz. Bottle. Pours a dark black/amber/red with a tan head. Nose is strong pine. Taste starts off with a good helping of piney hops, not as strong as most IPAs though. Moderately thick mouth feel. Finish is crisp with the malty porter characteristics taking over as the hops fade. Not your typical IPA and the flavor morphing is a great combination. Unique taste that I would definitely snag in a six pack if it was available.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the bottle, pours black with a thick tan foamy head. Thick aroma of chocolate and alcohol, a little oaky, really exciting. Taste is thick as well, notes of chocolate and alcohol, roasted malts. Bitter aftertaste and finish. Pretty good, not perfect.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma is of toasted malt, nuts, earthy hops, lots of onion, floral notes and coffee. The flavor follows the nose with an almost caramelized onion flavor, floral, earthy and grassy hops too, coffee, toasted malts and nuts. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall a pretty interesting brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012-05-04. Ruby tinged black body, small beige head. Leafy green hop aroma, mild dark malt, muted roast. 7+ Flavour is similar, leafy green hops, modest bitterness throughout, light herbal character comes out in the finish and lingers with the hops in the finish. 7+ Smooth average palate is pleasant and suits it with soft carbonation. 3+ Decent. 3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz into a pint from the new hopology mix pack. I liked last years single hop pack better, but this is cool. A hopped up porter here, thats what Im getting. And a nice one at that. Pours a fluid tar black that turns shades of purple after it sits. Head is medium and continuous. Taste is hoppy, fresh malty goodness, and quite similar to a dark ale as well. Theres some roasty choco, licorice, and ripe fruit in there as well. This is more a cold front brew than a spring enjoyment, but the time was right.

Bottle sample at the Sam Adams Hop-o-logy tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 5/3/12. Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of dark malt and spicy and oniony hops. Malty and caramelly flavor with a bit of a nutty character before a grassy hop finish.
