3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: APR 9, 2014 Bottle: Perfect amber & copper with exceptional clarity from head to toe. Foamy, white head reduces quickly to a thin skin that lasts for a while, leaving extremely spotty lacing. Aroma is light, with bits of orange peel, vegetal & leafy hops, light white pepper, mild onion notes, grass, and some steel-tinted caramel. Faint citric notes throughout the aroma as well. Taste is crisp & snappy with lots of lemon and grapefruit pith up front, leaving a nice bitter bite on the tongue. Lemon & orange zest, leaves, grass, and a touch of pine. Mild back-end peppery spice and light onion notes, though not off-putting. A touch of balancing sweetness from the borderline caramel-tasting Munich malts; finish is still dominated by fading hop bitterness. Pretty good option for a hoppy session beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a orange straw color with a white head. Aroma is pine and citrus. Nice clean taste of orange, lemon, and pine needles and a touch of sweetness. Thin to medium body which I wasn’t expecting and small to medium carbonation. Real good from SA.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clean and easy drinking mainly because there isn’t much taste. I guess you could easily slam a bunch if you wanted.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home in Salisbury. Pours crystal clear, rich gold, effervescent, with a strong, frothy off-white head. Nose has tangerine, melon, pine needles. Light sweet flavor with decent piney hop character, along with moderately dry pale malts, melon, grapefruit, mildly pithy citrus. Light bodied with average carbonation. Reasonably well balanced to finish, some oily hops, dry pine, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon rind. Not bad at all.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear amber color with a two finger off white head that retains well. Smells of pine and citrus hops. Citrus and pine dominate the flavor with a slight biscuit and sweet malt flavor for balance. Medium in body and carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
i had 3 bud lights before rating this. here we grow. pour is almost clear nice orangy yellow with a nice little film on top. some fruit on the nose. almost like a fresh green apple sort of smell, thats really all i can smell on this. taste seems to retain a bit of that apple character, but not in a cheap apple juice sort of asahi way. tastes pretty fresh and clean. little bitter on the top of the tongue. clean finish, slight apple skin bitterness. again maybe that is some other fruit smell, but not a citrusy sort of fruit.. anyway, it’s not really7 what i would picture an imperial pils being,a nd that being said i’m not sure what is so imperial about it at 5% either way, this is a cool one to sip on, not sure i would buy again but not gonna hate.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours the color of gold. No orange. No hues. Lager bubbles are making their way to the top in perfect clarity. There is a fat head of creamy bubbles that fell off unnoticed because I drank it so fast. Left wet and patchy lacing. carbonation refreshed upon each tilt of the glass.
This had a big bright nose. Everything you love about hops. Pine, citrus and floral. A bit of orange peel and a light bread. Tucked just under all that is a light yeasty lager scent. Spruce, pine needles. Lightly sweet malt.
Taste is exceptional. It has a tremendous hop forward character that is tempered and smooth. The hops are herbal and succulent with out a terrible bitter. They are not even really that tart and that’s how it is one step toned down from an IPA. There is a bit of grapefruit on the palate though but a light tangerine takes hold and a bit of orange blossom honey. Bread is light and the lagering has done this beer a great favor. It has made it smooth and drinkable in the best way. The pine is intense but not sharp. A touch of resin to make the aftertaste last and plenty of earth. It’s crisp and bold. There is just a bit of bitter in the dry finish.
Leave it to sam adams to mix these two beer styles so perfectly. This beer has tremendous flavor but is not the least bit harsh. it doesn’t numb you with bitterness. It doesn’t defeat you with a high abv. The mouthfeel is light to medium and the carbonation is perfect with a little bite to it. It is gentle enough and the lager character does indeed make it easy drinking.
