COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

I bought the variety pack for the maple pecan ale. But this one was definitely the best out of all of them, the citrus flavor was terrific and everything tasted so well together

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Part of the Spring Thaw sampler pack. Pours a clear amber with a bright white head that has good retention and leaves behind lots of sticky lacing. Aroma and taste of fresh hops, grapefruit, pine, citrus and malts. Very crisp and fresh tasting. Great citrus and hop bitterness in the finish. Medium body, sticky, creamy body, average carbonation. Being a lager gives this an original taste and mouthfeel. An excellent session beer!

Bottle. Pours a clear deep amber with an off white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a decent amount of pine hops with some sweet grains and a bit of crisp lager yeast. Flavor starts with crisp lager yeast and grains and has a bit of musty pine coming out in the finish.

Bottle.Clear amber gold with a big off white head. Clean malty base, with bitter piney and citric hops, followed by a bitter finish. Clean, light, hoppy, refreshing, and cheap (relatively). This beer at this price point is a very awesome thing.

12 oz bottle. Pours a translucent honey color with a think quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of grapefruit, bread, and floral. Taste is of corn flakes, citrus, earth, and a very mild pine flavor. Very light but not too thin. Dry finish that has an odd unpleasant lingering taste.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a clear amber with little to none off white head that went away very quickly. Aroma of grain and some hops and a bit of malts. Flavor is mostly bitter hops (but not overwhelming), citrus and grassy flavors balanced with a bit of sweetness from malts. Drinkable.

Reviewed 2/15/13. 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. A: Pours a crystal clear copper-amber color. The head is a one finger offwhite shade featuring typical texturing given the style. Thereís a nice amount of lacing left on the glass. S: Quite hoppy, yet in a subdued manner. The one hop strain I notice predominantly is the mango-like, slightly catty nature of Simcoe - but this also has the grapefruit peel of Cascade and the earth/lemon of Centennial. No real maltiness to be found, but who cares? Iím quite intrigued. T: Just like the aroma, this has a noticeable influence from the hops. At first, the melon and mango flavors from Simcoe hops comes through. After a couple of sips, flavors of lemon, earth, pine, and grapefruit peel make an appearance. Slightly sweet maltiness finishes off the flavor profile. I also notice a bit of diacetyl, as well. Itís definitely a showcase for the hops, and while they donít come across particularly boldly, they never come across as overpowering. M: A bit heavy in texture, enough to quash drinkability somewhat. If I have any problem with this brew, itís that it isnít as easy to down as it could be. After a while, the malts win out in terms of palate feel, making it a touch syrupy; on the other hand, there is some good dryness in the back of the mouth. Carbonation is about right for a lager. O: If I rated to style, this would be around a 4.5 or so - I donít know if thereís a better pale lager out there (and obviously I havenít had anything from Jackís Abby, either). In terms of personal preference, it does a good job of showing off the hop profile, but itís niggles keep it from reaching greatness.
