Pretty standard fair for an IPA. Greenish yellow body with a thick head that fades slow. Aroma is a strong hops with a little pine cone. Taste is crisp, slightly bitter that leaves a piney aftertaste. Drinks reasonably smooth.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was unexpectingly delicious and refreshing. The aroma is light citrus and juicy hops, the citra and the unique twist of Nelson is nice. The flavor is hops up front followed by lightly sweetened lager yeast and malts that settle pleasantly on the palate with a bit of the hops revisiting to finish up.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
An India Pale Lager? Gotta love it! Robust aroma has a very strong hoppy component, a sour citrus underpinning, and a hint of crisp lager malt. It pours a nice clear amber with a fairly thick ivory head. Hoppy flavor has nicely balanced woody and resiny components, with citrus and malt peeking through. Firm, smooth texture dances on the tongue, delighting with a hoppy and fruity finish. One brew experiment that makes the grade. If not Sam’s best, definitely worth a try.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz. bottle. Hoppy, fruity, citric aroma, touches of grapefruit, pine, herbs and the white wine character of the Nelson Sauvins coming through as well, with lighter notes of grass, lemon and wood. Clear medium-dark golden in color with a very fine-bubbled head of white and very thin lacing. Flavor profile is quite hop-focused as well, with lots of tropical fruit, citrus, green, leafy herbs and a moderately high degree of clean bitterness that appears late, as does the pale, very lightly toasty and sweet malt character. Crisp and dry on the palate with plenty of fine effervescence, body is light-medium. Refreshing and flavorful. I must admit, I am impressed. This delivers on the concept.

Best by August 2013 ... poured into a Samuel Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.
Appearance: Looks like a beer-beer... a lot like Samuel Adams Boston Lager. A nice, crystal clear amber color. Three fingers or so of a nice, creamy-ish white head. Lacing’s awesome on this one. Good looking.
Smell: For some reason, a lot of metallic aromas... though this could be because I rinsed my glass out just before using. Behind that is plenty of hops. Grapefruit, and a non-descript tropical note. As the label says, a lot of West coast aromas in this one. Well done.
Taste/feel: It’s a Boston Lager in IPA form, I think... and it’s fantastic. It’s a lot like an IPA on the front, but the finish is sweet, with that classic biscuit/cracker aftertaste that I get from Boston Ale/Lager, and now this. The mouthfeel is of about medium carbonation with a slight creamy feel. Truly one of the, if not THEE, best Samuel Adams beers that I’ve had. I hope this is a year round offering that’s available in six-packs. $8.49 for a six pack? Sign me up.

Bottle. Wow! Good job Sam Adams, another solid beer! Never seen an "ipl" and it’s a pretty fun blend of flavors. Smells like an average ipa, like an anchor ale...but the taste adds so much to it. Has a crisp hoppiness to it, that finishes smooth and has little aftertaste. The aftertaste that’s there is weak and floral. This is my new fave spring brew...very light, crisp, and has all the ipa kick I’d like! Needs more booze though. 5.0% alcohol.
