Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt

12 oz bottle, part of the "spring thaw" 12 pack. Pours a clear bright yellow with a 1/2" white head. With a beer this clean and bright, can spring be far off. Aroma is fruity hops with a touch of spice. Light fruitiness in the flavor. Some bready malt. Finishes dry and crisp. Thin palate. Everything about screams spring.

Pours golden with light white head. Aroma is pretty hoppy with lots of grapefruit and pine. Moderate bitter taste with a crisp easy finish. Definitely something new and also delicious. Quite smooth overall interesting mix

Bottle poured into tulip. Appearance is clear golden copper with a nice off-white head. Aroma is intense bitter citrus with pine hints. The taste is a bit heavier on the pine and grass with a rather bitter hops aftertaste. Slightly creamy feel to, carbonation seems fairly light. Not too bad.

Pours a translucent golden orange amber with a creamy/bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma of a handful of fresh American hops. Piney, floral and citrusy. There is a nice malt character coming through that I get from many Sam Adams beers, however for the most part thise nose is all about the hops! Flavor of resiny hops, sticky pine and floral. Really a great hop flavor profile going on. Clean a crisp with a nice lightly toasted/cereal grain malt profile poking through. Well done Boston Beer Company! Make sure you try this when itís fresh...that hoppy goodness will diminish quickly.

Bottle from Guntown. A solid brew. Pours a clear golden color with a large white head. A big nice nose of fruity hops. The flavor is oranges and more citrus, crisp, clean malts, very nice.

Clear golden with a light copper tinge and a soft, thick white head. Light floral aroma. Hoppy floral with a bit of bitter edge and an undertone of lager. A nice covering for a lager.

12 oz brown glass bottle served in a snifter. Bottle says to enjoy before July 2013. A: Pours crystal clear, medium amber with a generous beige head and limited easily visible carbonation. Above average head retention and plenty of rather sticky lacing Aroma: Markedly hoppy for a pale lager; with plenty of floral, pine and herbal hop notes. T: Again, a hoppy lager, as billed. A bit fruity; more so than in the aroma. Lacks complexity. Long-lasting, mildly hoppy aftertaste. M: Medium body yet surprisingly thin {lager style) finish. Well chosen medium carbonation. Nicely smooth.. O: Probably the hoppiest lager I have ever had, yet well balanced and highly drinkable. A pale lager hopped up to the level of an Amer. Pale Ale.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 12 oz bottle from Costco. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head that quickly diminishes. The aroma is features pine tar, salt and lightly toasted grains. The taste is malt forward with biscuit and breads backed up by mildly bitter grapefruit hops. The palate is silky smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and semi-sweet with lingering grains. Overall: Decent lager.

Nice pine aroma; non deScription light amber appearance with decent head that thinned out. Taste isn't bad but disappointed. The Ipa and lager weakened each other rather than blending into something really enjoyable or interesting. The Ipa bite felt watered down. But I liked the idea and appreciate the attempt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
