COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

Not much of an aroma. Color is rich golden hue. It starts off like a bitter grapefruit. Finishes really bitter. Its not really complex, and I was not really a big fan.

From a 6-pack of SA hoppy beers. For me, this shows why IP is better followed by A than L. The citrus/pine hops are there (mostly flavor, not bitterness) against a clean lager body. I think it needs an ale backbone. Not that it is really sweet, but it has an almost cloying citrus aspect to it. Or maybe I’m just used to German or Saaz hops in my lagers. Not the nest of both worlds, or of either world.

Draft. A nice hoppy lager. Nose is nice sweet yeast and hops. Good sweetness and bitterness is the flavor. Interesting.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle with a best by date of July, 2014. Aroma has a light grainy and bread character with some light citrus and tropical fruit notes. Hints of pine resin and grassy hop notes. Pours a slightly cloudy, golden orange with a pale copper character and a moderately sized, fluffy white head with nice retention. Moderately high lacing with faint legs. Flavor is light and crisp with a light grain and bread character. Medium light bitterness with medium light hop character. Hop character is fairly fruity and citrus forward with some stone fruit character. Light pine resin notes. Mouthfeel is medium light to light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice IPL but it could be a bit lighter and crisper with a more hop forward and brighter presence. Otherwise, nicely balanced and easy drinking.

Aroma of hops, grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, sweet caramel malt, bitterness, light alcohol. A pretty good offering.

Served in the sexy, curvy Samuel Adams glass. Clear golden body with moderate effervescence. An inch and a half of foamy white head. Aromas of lager yeast, piney hops, biscuit malt, earth and floral notes. Almost like a hoppier version of Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Medium bitterness. Clean and refreshing. Lasting notes of earthy hops and a bitter tang. Honestly, this is much better than I expected. I haven’t been too impressed with the many hoppy offerings in the Samuel Adams lineup, but I’d have this again.

Pours straw yellow from the bottle with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet with a tang of hops. Tastes like a lager at first then there’s a nice bite of hops and malts. Good beer overall.

[Bottle] Clear golden colored pour with a fizzy white head on top. Crisp hoppy nose. Grassy hops, cracker, pale malts and light mineral notes in the taste. Quite pilsner-like despite the different hop profile. Lingering floral and citrus hop finish. Moderate carbonation levels. Good stuff.

BBD 9/14. Pours a light amber, just a shade above golden, with a slight ruby tint. Massive head with superb lacing and retention. Nice light nose of citrus, grapefruit and sweet tropical, over a bit of biscuit. Light medium body with a smooth texture. Slightly above normal carbonation which imparts a nice effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is a blend of hop flavor with very little bitterness. The hop flavor is citric, with a focus on grapefruit initially. The middle gets more tropical and ends with a nice biscuit crispness. On the finish, a nice light grapefruit rind bitterness lingers a bit.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. The label lists the ABV 5% and there is a short description of the beer. Appearance: It has a golden honey body with a creamy white head on top. This head has good retention and makes nice leasing on the glass. Smell: There are nice citrusy hops with notes of tangerines and grapefruit as well as some tropical fruit. Taste / Palate: The flavor picks up all the hop notes from the nose and adds them to a nice bread base malt. It has a solid medium body with balanced carbonation and mellow bitter finish.

Nice IPL, like their standard lager with the addition of extra hops. Moderate fruity and pine coney hints. Overall, great summer beer.
