COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2013 Clear, deep gold with a white head. The malty aroma has some bread and cereal notes. The light body has an oily texture with lively carbonation. It has a mildly bitter taste with a dry finish.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Medium amber brew with three fingers of white head that stays around for a while. Great hoppy aroma of citrus, pine, grapefruit. Taste is very light malt at the start and hop-dominated after that. Hops are well balanced and do not overwhelm the brew. This is a real winner.

Bottle. Pours a dark gold-orange with a high, fine-grained, cream-colored head. Nose is herbal and floral, but also has a vanilla-like note. A lot of toffee-like sweetness on the open, with hops citrus and some bitterness on the midpalate. More citrus on the close, and a very pleasant smooth, rich mouthfeel. Not a lot of carbonation. Quite nice.

Bottle. Great beer. Loved the rich citrus hop taste that one finds in a IPAD but had that crisp refreshing finish of a lager. Great stuff.

This seems to be the new cool thing in brewing now, a lager that is supposed to taste like an IPA. My question naturally is, "why not just have an IPA". Not liking it too much.

Wow, did not expect this from Samuel Adams. Thier beers are accetable for the most part, but this is really good. Coppery pour with nice white hewd. Aroma is nice mixture of lemon and hops. Sweet and bitter are fairly well balanced.

355ml bottle. Looks like a lager, but smells like an IPA, grapefruit and herbal hops, but with some bready lager malt. Corny, grainy lager malts in the taste, hops were kind of like the Latitude 48. Lager body. Overall, I’d say IPL was a better idea for making a lighter bodied IPSomething than some of the 4.5% light IPAs I’ve had in the last year.

Copper-gold,short head, lacing. Clear, I really like the color of this one. Fairly hoppy aroma fruit, kinda spicey with general hoppiness. Taste is smooth, slickish, somewhat toasty/buiscuity with caramel,a little toffee,hops-citrus fruit-tropical like, dryish finish, good bitter, some noticable malt in finish also.Pretty spicey tasting overall. Good beer. Probably wouldnt really know it was a lager besides it being a bit smoother/slicker.

This aroma is pure hops, but a distinct undercurrent of spruce comes through. When poured, this beer is orange in color, and there is a medium head that dissipates quickly. When sipped, the beer is of a medium bitterness and slightly salty, and the combination of this beer’s abrupt finish, average carbonation, medium body, and sticky texture do make this beer a mouthful.

Poured a nice orange color with a large frothy white head. Good hoppy aroma with a touch of copper, fruit, and pine. Taste is quite dry and hoppy. Initially there are lots of grapefruit flavors, but it transitions into a smoother maltier taste. The finish has some nice fruits with more dry hoppy flavors. Aftertaste has apricot with some metallic flavors. Overall a nice experiment!
