COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

12 oz bottle from the spring variety pack. Pours slightly hazy copper with a medium off-white head with good retention and lace. Aroma is doughy, floral. Taste is bitter with some sour in the finish (along with more lingering bitterness). Nice and hoppy. Creamy mouthfeel, high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. Not bad at all, although not near as good as New Belgium’s Shift when it comes to hoppy lagers.

Clear medium Amber color, tan head. Aromatic hops, Left Coast hopping with some fruit cocktail notes. Nice hoppy flavor too, resinous pine tar, bread dough, hints of orange blossom honey, good bitter follow. Quite quaffable!

April 22nd, 2014 - From the Hopology Collection comes the Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL, a smooth and mostly clear beer with a velvety creamy head, like a very well lathered shaving soap. The aroma is clean and crisp like a lager, but with a touch more sweetness than I’d normally expect, like grapefruit, with a touch of corn and lime juice, too. The flavor is much, much sweeter, with an intense carbonation, and a flash of hops and lime in the aftertaste. It is indeed a hoppy tasting lager, with a slight tropical lime-beer edge which I find a little off putting. But this would definitely serve as a porch chair drinker, with a smoothness to settle on hot summer days, but enough hops to engage.

Bottle. Copper in color with a thin white head and lacing. A hoppy citrus aroma with grapefruit and resinous pine flavorings. It was moderately bitter as well.

This is another solid beer by Samuel Adams. Got it in a sampler but I would look for it again.

Pours a clear, pale golden orange color with light edges and a two finger frothy, pillowy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Good retention with splotches of soapy lacing left behind. Slightly earthy aroma with a subtle grassy hop notes but the pine, citrus and tropical fruit notes promised on the label are nowhere to be found in the nose. Kind of bland with floral hops followed by bready yeast, caramel malt and toffee. Hopefully it tastes more like an Indian pale than it smells. On the lighter end of medium bodied with a crisp hop bite which provides some dry bitterness that lingers over the lager yeast into a slightly dry finish. Some sticky pine needle and grassy hop notes but again, the citrus and tropical fruit notes are undetectable to my palate. Caramel malt backbone with hints of caramel, toffee, bread and biscuit. Really disappointing considering what I was expecting. The idea of a west coast style hoppy lager is intriguing but this was just a boring lager with a slightly aggressive, one dimensional hop profile.

Gold pour with a white head. Fruity malts, dough, earthy hops and light spice. Nice palate earthy grain, hops, dough, caramel and a sweet finish.
